First haircut in a year, do I go for an Art Director and will it really make a difference?

Ok so originally I was going to go to SuperCuts, but I am mixed heritage so thought I had better go for somewhere a little bit more likely to have stylists that are more knowledgeable on different hair textures. I still don't want to spend a fortune though as I have found this doesn't necessarily mean I will get a haircut that reflects the extra expense.

I live in Islington and always pass this place. What I was wondering is if it would be worth going for an Art Director or Director to cut my hair or if a Senior Stylist will do.

Does it really make a difference when its a senior stylist cutting your hair anyway?

And what the bloody frig is an Art Director hair stylist anyway? I assume it means a more advanced hair stylist.

I would go for the most you can afford tbh - yes I think it does make a difference.

Not sure about the technicalities of being art director etc but I used to model for toni and guy and in my opinion, if you want a really great, everyday kind of cut then go for a regular stylist. If you want something really creative (ie if you are willing to go in and tell them they can do as they please with your hair) then go for the art director. I've had my hair cut by every level of hairdresser, from juniors to sascha mascolo-tarbuck and the difference in the feel etc is virtually non existant...the difference in creativity is huge though. I say go for a senior stylist...you'll get a great hair cut and won't break the bank.

mrsmartin that is great advice. I also used to model for Toni and Guy and you have just reminded me how much I used to find it difficult maintaining to ultra stylish yet very impractical cuts I would end up with. Thanks for that!

Ime toni and guy are shit. Read past threads.

They train staff in about 6 weeks.

That doesn't surprise me. I also modeled for Vidal Sassoon and they were much better. I would do it again if it wasn't for the lack of control on the outcome of the style.

The stylists love experimenting and get a bit carried away, especially with hair like mine.

When I had to complained about Toni and Guy last year I was told that Artistic Director was just a job description for people who had been there a certain amount of time, and there were several of them at the salon in question. I had booked with The Artistic Director for a re-style and was sent away with a granny bob, in tears. I'd suggest you get a personal recommendation for a good stylist - in the past I've gone up to people with nice hair in the street and asked where they had it done- rather thanjust choose a fancy job title.
