I am trying to cut corners, do you think the beauticians have ripped me off?

Or, is it my own fault. I rang up this morning and asked how much an eyebrow thread and tint is, as well as an eyelash tint and she said £17 I said "are you sure?" and she said "sorry for all three it's £19" I've just had it done and I got to the counter and she charged me £24. I'm fuming. She kept pointing it out on the price list and would got give an inch.

They did this to me at Xmas as well. They quoted and booked me in for a 92£ package and during the treatment the beauty therapist said "for your skin, I'm going to use these new products" without telling me they were £15 more. Again , I made a show of myself at the counter.

I'm so broke, my usual place would've charged me £18

It is a nuisance, but tbh if you're really broke, you could always diy!

SecondTimeLucky · 28/02/2012 16:24

I would never go there again personally. If they quote a price over the phone at time of booking, they should honour it. I had that 'ooh, I'm using X' done to me once (have only had two facials in my life...) and was fuming.

Bohica · 28/02/2012 16:24

Yep DIY die and wax strips from boots work well for me on tight months.

SheKnittedHimAJumper · 28/02/2012 16:28

I'm too cockeyed to do my own and it's not like they need doing a lot. At my age, my eyebrows barely grow!! It's the principle.

I wouldn't return and would tell others tbh.

starfishmummy · 28/02/2012 16:42

I agree with the others, can you find somewhere else?
If not, then when you get there you could remind them that they said when you booked that it would be £xx; and ask if there will there be any extras. It's easier to discuss it before they do it as you can then choose whther to walk away or not.

SheKnittedHimAJumper · 28/02/2012 16:50

I've got someone else but, the threading technician is brilliant at these new place. I've taken on board what you've said. I've just remembered something else. The second time I had them threaded they asked to see my loyalty card so they could stamp it. when I said I never had one given to me the receptionist insisted she had given me one and I practically had to beg her for another one. Even though it wasn't another one because she'd never given me one.

MissFoodie · 28/02/2012 16:58

why dont you get them threaded in an asian beauty salon?
mine charge £3......!

SheKnittedHimAJumper · 28/02/2012 17:09

It is an Asian beauty salon!! A very posh one. It's always hard to get in. Which is why I had to ring to get an appointment. The customer care is rubbish. They arent struggling so they don't have to try.

I'd pay what I was quoted. If they wouldn't budge I'd walk out, get the cash and the right change and return and pay that way.

It's happened a couple of times and they've always changed the sum for the card payment (ie. I've never had to leave). Not at the same place I hasten to add!

EllenParsons · 28/02/2012 18:17

Totally out of order of them. I'm quite annoyed on your behalf reading this tbh. I'd be gobsmacked if that happened to me, I would feel very cheated! I'd be looking for somewhere else. I don't need tinting but I go to House of Fraser for my threading, only £6 on a Monday as I'm a student and the girl there is always lovely. Hope you can find another good place where they are honest!

SheKnittedHimAJumper · 28/02/2012 19:13

Yes, I have a good place and I was going there. I just get sick of going to the same place and I knew this place is good. So, I rang them and the quote was the same as my regular person thats why I went.

if your in London, I can teach you how to thread your own eyebrows. I learned on youtube.

jkklpu · 28/02/2012 19:16

Sorry, you say you're broke but you're going regularly for beauty treatments? And to to a place you know overcharges, to boot?

IAmBooyhoo · 28/02/2012 19:16

hardly broke if you have £24 to spend on beauty treatments.

supernannyisace · 28/02/2012 19:19

Sounds like you could do better elsewhere. I don't like to give my hard earned to businesses that take the piss!

I would find an alternative salon.

cece · 28/02/2012 19:29

I have a mobile beautician come to my house. Perhaps you could find one of those?

SheKnittedHimAJumper · 28/02/2012 20:06

When I say broke I meant I havent got an excess of money as I have alot on this weekend. I have to go to do different do's plus, buy presents, pay train fare, hotel etc. Im trying to cut corners as much as I can because I dont want to start dipping into money allocated for the weekend.

iFailedTheTuringTest · 28/02/2012 20:39

Isn't it breach of contract for them to do that?
(knows just enough law to know I know bugger all)

M1ssBerta · 28/02/2012 20:46

I guess you'll just have to confirm when you get there to avoid any confusion, or pay beforehand!

anniewoo · 28/02/2012 23:21

I think that is a great price. Prices in Dublin would be much much higher

hurricanewyn · 29/02/2012 10:27

Anniewoo - my mam gets her eyebrows done and her nails done on Camden Street. She says it's really cheap and she loves it. Might be worth trying there for somewhere reasonable?
