Manky toenails - the miracle cure : and under 4p per day!

My Case:
I damaged a toe a couple of years back and have had various infections (viral / bacterial / fungal) in the nail ever since. Have had surgery to track the source without success. Now have permanently distorted toe joint which makes shoe buying a PITA. And a nail that is lumpy with frayed edges and tags all over it.

Then I head that Vicks was what I needed.
Its combination of vaseline and VERY volatile antiseptic / antifungal oils has worked magic
once in the morning as I put my socks on (use old ones and accept that they will be binned in a fortnight) - smear the toenail over, under, round, with vicks

my nail in smoother by the day and will be able to be painted red again soon (BLISS)
but
more to the point, the oils in Vicks are MEGA strong and have killed ALL the infections in my nail
and I've used less than 1/20 of a pot in the last ages

give it a go - beautiful feet could be cheap ...

ooh might try this as I have a fungally big toenail infection

I've heard of this but never been brave enough to try it! Does it really work?

I cannot express without offensive use of caps and bold how much I think people should give it a go
after surgery (yup the side of my toe taken off and sewed back on)
I had utterly given up hope

the point is that Vicks contains oils (like turpentine) that are so volatile they cannot be sold on their own
but they are mind buggeringly effective at killing infections
and sealed into your nail the infections do not stand a chance

my toenail, after over 2 years is suddenly 'glossy' again

I've found a pot in the cupboard and will give it go. How long do you reckon before I should see an improvement?

ooo I'm going to try this. let me get this right - smear Vicks over each infected toe nail & put socks on do every morning for a fortnight or until clear. is that right?

I've been trying this for a few months then gave up as it didn't work. I had read though that it works for something like a third of people so I'm one of the unlucky ones I think. Did you just do it once a day, and how long til you saw results?

I put the vicks on in the morning - all over and around my nail - and then put socks on
I noticed a difference within a couple of days

it comes down to what caused yours....
mine is a crossover fungal / bacterial / viral and I stopped taking te normal drugs because of the side effects (black spots on my teeth among others)

and when you say Vicks, you do mean that strong camphor smelling stuff one is supposed to rub on one's chest?

Ah, I'm doing mine in the evening before bed, maybe its getting rubbed off too quickly!

Would it be very stupid to try it on my norks (thrush)?

Yes offtobed, it would be a bad idea to try on norks. It would irritate them no end. And definitely don't try on your fanjo.

If you don't believe me, just try getting a bit on eg your lip.

Is also really good rubbed on soles of feet at night to help a cold - sounds wierd but works!

Sorry for going OT but vaseline is also very good when applied to heals every morning when wearing sandals in the summer. Stops cracked heals, much cheaper than foot creams.

I'm always telling dh Vicks cures everything. I'm going to show him this thread

I think I will give this a go but surely for a fungal nail infection it will take 6+ months for the new growth to come in and for the nail to be fully better?

my nail has been bad for best part of three years
but within days the vicks had brought a shine to the good bits and reduced the rough edges all over the nail
a perfect nail will take time but vicks has to be better than systemic drugs

oooh - interesting - gonna buy some of this tomorrow - is it just called 'Vicks'? Wherewould you find it? If I ask in Superdrug will they know what it is?

interseting, just googled it, and apparently rubbed on chldren's feet also stops coughing.... just gotta get some

Do you reckon it would work on fingernails? I got a tiny piece of rusting plastic/metal stuck down behind my thumbnail the other day. I think I managed to pull it all out but it's still very sore and had thought about trying this overnight with a cotton glove on to see if it helps.

You can get it in supermarkets, in the cold section with olbas oil and lemsip etc

The colds and flu section, not the chillers!!
