Eyelashes - to curl or not to curl

Years ago I used to use eyelash curlers all the time. But then I had a terrible eyelash accident - the curlers basically cut off about a 1cm strip of my eyelashes right in the middle of my eyelid! I don't think anyone else ever noticed - or they were too polite to say - but I was very aware of the gap until they grew back. But I wonder if the time has come to give them another go. My eyelashes are quite long but there are always a few that seem to point in totally random directions.

I don't bother, just use l'oreal telescopic and that curls and coats at the same time for me.

Do you curl before mascara on? That may avoid pulling lashes out again.

To curl, definitely. It opens up your eye.

I have to, as I've gotten older my lids are a little droopier and now my lashes are straight to the point that you can't see them without curling. I have to use heated curlers as normal ones don't really work anymore. They are a bit chunkier than normal ones do may be easier to avoid any accidents?

It's the only thing that brightens my face, a total must for me.

MooMinCow · 25/02/2012 17:49

Sorry to hijack Ambi but are heated lash curlers any good? I use regular ones and after I've applied mascara the curl disappears after an hour. Have considered lash perming, but am a bit scared!

Hmm lash perming - maybe that would be the way to go. Has anyone tried it?

I curl and then immediately coat with mascara and hold the lashes up high with the wand for a min or two until they dry ifswim. I just heat my eyelash curlers with my hairdryer...They are alot more effective that way (I can never get those stick ones to work).

I did get my lashes permed a couple of times but they straightened almost immediately. But I have very stubborn lashes - everyone else I know that has had them done said they lasted 3-4 weeks

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 25/02/2012 19:04

I don't bother, but I have long lashes that curl up anyway. Every now and then I try a curler just to see and it never makes a jot of difference, even when heated.

You can make ordinary eyelash curlers "heated" by warming with your hairdryer - definitely creates more and longer lasting curl for me.

Ambi · 25/02/2012 20:29

Love heated curlers, not v expensive either. I go through the batteries quickly though cos I seem to forget to switch it off Blush

Definately eyelash curlers.
I've got Body Shop metal ones with the rubber strip.I did try the plastic ones(supposed to be gentler) but they were bulky and snapped very quickly.

I've got rubbish eyelashes and can't tolerate the thickening fibres in some mascaras.
But I've got Mally mascara at the moment (QVC) and it's excellant for me.

holstenlips · 25/02/2012 20:50

Just got eyelash extensions (treat from a friend) love them!

ArielNonBio · 25/02/2012 20:57

I did the same thing. I had to fill in the gap with eyeliner for a couple of months.

I still use them, but never with wet or sweaty hands.
