Dressing advice for a 20-something SAHM?

I have strong feeling that I'm dressing way too old and frumpy :/
But I can't figure out what to wear if I'm not a trendy fashion diva, party girl or career lady?
Do you have any suggestion for everyday wear for someone who is
-In her twenties
-Somewhat slim
-SAHM?

I suspect (without even knowing your age) you know that you're wearing things that much older women are wearing... the dreaded Per Una for example Grin

I don't know how old you are, but can safely recommend Uniqlo is your friend for bargainous skinny jeans, long-sleeved T-shirts and jumpers... All washable and in lovely basic colours. Add a pair of boots for stomping about in the back garden/park and you're set.

If you feel frumpy, try something that you think is only for fashiony types but is probably rather nice on you Smile. Swap some old patterned/pastel stripe/just a bit too midriff revealing/ tops for the new t-shirts but lovely and long, in white/grey/navy/hot neon pink cos it's spring... and you will be pleasantly surprised. And skinny jeans tucked into boots or worn with flats... will look great just as long as you have bum-covering t-shirts and cardies.

Give it a try Smile.

Thank you!
No I don't wear Per Una :o
I think the problem is that
-I go for "classic and neutral" and up with boring and frumpy.

  • I mostly hang out with older ladies
-I don't want to look like a teenager!

I was a good 10 years younger than my NCT crowd (one of them was having her first in her mid-forties and could have been my Mum, to both of our horror) and have a fairly youthful complexion so I absolutely get where you are coming from. I lost my way a bit style-wise, but have got there again (largely thanks to the W&A thread on here).

I wear lots of coloured jeans from all ends of the budget spectrum; J Brand 811s are lovely if you have the £££ (I've bought on sale/eBay), Topshop Jamies and Gap Always Skinny (30% off till end of weekend). I tend to then wear a Breton top (Whistles/Gap) or a plain t-shirt (Whistles have gorgeous ones, I also really rate New Looks). Then some ankle boots/ballerinas/sandals. Sometimes a scarf and at the moment, nearly always my lovely biker jacket.

I've got some lovely stripy dresses for the summer and so should be covered. I used to find that I wore really plain, blend into the background stuff as I was so anxious about my age when at playgroups/meet-ups; invariably people asked and made me feel quite uncomfortable; I used to find myself justifying my choices over and over again. I'm much happier being in what I am in now - I find making sure my hair and make-up is done helps a lot in feeling a bit more done.

Russianred, yes that's basically how it is! Self-confidence is the key here actually isn't it? I think my current lifestyle makes me feel old and too young at the same time.
