I need a temporary 'thin girl' wardrobe

I won't bore with the details but I have recently found out that my H has OW and he has moved out. I foresee a long and bitter road ahead Sad.

The shock and upset has caused me to lose a shedload of weight. My boobs have disappeared, the thunder thighs are like twigs and I have a flat tummy for the first time ever. (Still don't recommend this as a weight loss plan though!)

So - in the meantime - can anyone recommend some cheap and cheerful clothes I can wear? Am going to hit the shops later for a basic work wardrobe. We're not overly smart at work - don't need suits - and I would say my style is 'pretty' rather than corporate. Nice dresses, flippy skirts, cardis, etc.

Oh, and I'm 50 - but I really don't think I look it.

Sorry to hear this. There is a whole thread about the Dorothy Perkins dresses that are 25% sale until Sunday with free shipping and free returns. There other clothes are on sale as well like jacket and the clearance items. Most things are cheap and cheerful so I think would work well for a temporary wardrobe.

Why not try places like Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys? Especially if you are mainly wanting things for work.
But maybe you should treat yourself to something nice to cheer yourself up?
Best if luck x

Sorry best OF luck. Stupid iPhone

I have no specific clothing advice but just wanted to wish you the best of luck in your new life. Sorry you have been treated so shabbily but you WILL get through this, really you will.

I once lost a lot of weihgt suddenly through stress and found i looked very scrawny and had to avoid the lower necklines that usuualy suit me. I also make the BIG mistake of gettng my hair cut short , which only emphasised the too skinniness.

oldfatandtired · 25/02/2012 13:59

Thanks all. Kristina, I am wearing a lowish necked scoop neck t-shirt at the moment and I look like I belong in a concentration camp . . . It is not helping that, after looking through H's credit card statements, he has been spending in Hobbs, Phase 8 and LK Bennett!

Well you need a new name to begin with Smile And your ex is a knob.

Have a look in new look, h&m, zara, warehouse and DP - what size are you now?

KandyBarr · 25/02/2012 15:13

Good luck, old (though you're not).

Interesting he's relying on credit cards to pay for OW's treats - sounds like that might be a disaster waiting to happen!

My DS's girlfriend's mum is coming round tonight with a bag of clothes she was going to put to the charity shop - a mixture of M & S, Next, Jigsaw etc. She is a 10 so hopefully there will be a few things that fit me. I am very grateful - will keep me going until I can face a shopping trip.

Ahem, why are you gettimg his card statements? I hope you dont still have any joint cards? Do you need legal and financial advice more than fashion advice?

Do not waste one second of your energy envying OW. She has a lying cheatijg scumbag who will eventually cheat on her like he did to you. You now knwo what hes capable of, hes not the man yu thought he was. No Hobbs dress makes up for that.

You will get through this to a better place

oldfatandtired · 25/02/2012 15:48

Kristina, they were lying opened on the dining room table! - so I had a look. And some of what I found will come in very useful when I see solicitor next week. Don't worry - I got loads of good advice in my 'relationships' thread the other night. But my weight loss has been so dramatic that I really needed a bit of shopping advice. Am turning a corner today, I think - have managed a couple of milky coffees, a yogurt and a banana.

I second the vote for zara. Lots of lovely clothes in there for thin people.

Also second the vote for your ex being a knob. Have an un-MN xxx

KristinaM · 25/02/2012 17:22

Twas just checking! Well done on the snacksSmile

AntPants1 · 25/02/2012 20:32

So sorry to hear this. You definately need a new name...something with fabulous in it!

I second Zara. Also Massimo Dutti- slightly more up market version and Gap for basics..skinnies, vest tops etc.

I hope you manage to get some nice things. Sounds like you deserve a treat.

AntPants1 · 25/02/2012 20:33

Oh and Reiss for work!
