organic, chemical free make-up- decent brands out there?

is there a decent range of organic, chemical free make-up with good concealers, mascaras, blusher etc? i remember as a teenage vegan venturing into this and being disappointed as the pigments were always rubbish so it wore off after an hour. i swiftly returned to rimmell and 17!

have things changed? i want to cut down the amount of chemicals i put on my skin and have begun to do so with moisuriser etc.

any advice welcome...

Fair enough Trills but if you had read my subsequent posts you would have ascertained that I was referring to specific harmful ingredients such as parabens, silicone, lead etc and that I am seeking more natural products that are plant based where possible.

Obviously it isn't possible to avoid all chemicals but this is a lighthearted thread in the Style and Beauty section of Mumsnet not an article in a science journal.

When devising a title, one must condense ideas into a brief outline and expand upon it later. Titles do not always completely reflect the post which is why you open them and read what people have written if it interests you.

feelinghappy they sell Une cosmetics in my local Superdrug! Great! Will try Dr Haushka concealer too. My eye bags need serious pigment!

Interesting about Neal's Yard. I am using one of their eyeliner pencils (free with a mag a few months back) and it wears off quickly. Have tried their moisturisers, cleansers and sun block but wasn't impressed. Will have a look at their make up range when it comes out though.

Only your OP was there when I posted (yes I realise that was a 5-min cross-post but sometimes I open threads then the doorbell rings or I decide I absolutely must make a cup of tea).

As you say, it's a lighthearted thread, I made a lighthearted post about "chemicals". No hard feelings, eh? :)

Trills, you sound a bit like my completely unhelpful GP when I tried to discuss wth him the effect the paraffin in the cream he prescribed was having on my skin.

OP, I have tried some of the creams from these but not their cosmetics. The lotions and potions are rather nice though so it might be worth a try.

elliemay80 · 24/02/2012 17:37

Of course no hard feelings Trills!

Blahdiblah That looks like nice stuff. A bit pricey but so is Dr Hauschka. Will have a proper look at the website. Thanks

The eyeliner stays on if i put some pressed powder on over it, i'm addicted to the frankinsence moisturiser, much prefer it to DrH and Weleda that i tried.

I get UNE stuff in boots ...

MissFoodie · 24/02/2012 18:08

Une eyeliners (sfumato) are lovely, so is their lipgloss.
They do a BB cream compact foundation, not my cup of tea, but it is good.
You can buy with free delivery from Naturisimo if they don't have what you want in Boots/Superdrug.
Cream blushers are a nice texture, just make sure you try shades beforehand.

MissFoodie · 24/02/2012 18:13

blahdihblah Inika is good, their foundation in a tube is v nice, not liquid though, v creamy. They do a highlighting cream in a peachy pink shade which is nice as an eyeshadow (if in a rush) and their mineral blusher is really good too. Their primer is amazing, but it's all a higher budget than Ellie wants, so Une is prob good place to start, then work way up!

Elliemay80, i know what you mean, i have resorted to making my own creams and they are soooo much better and you have the added satisfaction of knowing exactly whats in them and you can taylor them to your particular skincare needs.

I have looked at laver a, also hound a site called www.theremustbeabetterway.co.uk

i like www.purenuffstuff.co.uk
Blahdiblah - i like your link - i will investigate them further AND they aren't too far from me either so i could visit the shop.

crazynell · 24/02/2012 18:30

sorry spelling! tailor

blahdiblahdiblah · 24/02/2012 19:20

crazynell - I've resorted to making my own creams too! I was over the moon when I found Handmade Naturals, but disappointingly had a massive allergic reaction to this The sensitive face cream is absolutely gorgeous though.

This video from Lisa Eldridge is a look using natural/organic make-up, might give you some more ideas for specific products?

snailsontour · 24/02/2012 21:06

Essential Care have some lovely things and are a great company to deal with.

Omg blahdiblah i wonder what it was that you reacted to? I found that i react to beeswax - or something in it called propolis - i only found out why or what by lots of googling, i also check things out on this site: www.ewg.org/skindeep/

blahdiblahdiblah · 25/02/2012 19:29

I know - it's very annoying as there are only about 6 ingredients in it! Will have a look at that website

blahdiblahdiblah · 25/02/2012 21:14

Someone has just sent me this link which looks quite nice?

MissFoodie · 25/02/2012 22:10

yes I reviewed their foundation and blusher, the link is above

blahdiblahdiblah · 26/02/2012 08:21
