Mine lasts... well for ever. Has never chipped. It either grows so I need to re-do, or I'm desperate for a proper pedicure to sort my heels out so get it re-done. I have very short toe nails though - I imagine longer nails would chip. I re-do about once a month? Doesn't seem to damage my nails, but I always get it soaked off not drilled off.

Haven't tried it on fingernails.

Tyaca- I don't use the shellac polishes just normal polish. As long as you use the base and top coat and UV them, they do all the hard work.

Need to do toes yet, but should last ages on them like silent.

I think some of it depends on the technician. My usual lady does a great job, but I did once go to a walk-in nail bar and it only lasted 10 days or so.

By attempting to use Pro only products like Shellac yourself without training you run a real risk of causing yourself an allergic reaction. Using the base and top with normal nail polish in between is asking for trouble - if it works that way why do you think CND invented coloured Shellac?

The issue of a lamp is another concern, by using a generic lamp there is no way of knowing if your Shellac is fully cured. Uncured Shellac can cause an allergic reaction as well as causing service breakdown.

If you want a gel polish find yourself a good nail tech and be confident you are getting a good job done. Otherwise stick to nail polish.

Btw, Bluesky is fake. Most of the pro only use products on EBay are stolen, fake or illegally imported.

A week this time until I chipped them. I'm sat here with tinfoil on my right fingers as I type trying to get it off! Last time easily 2.5weeks and only chnged because I'd booked in.

I'm wearing black at the minute; had deep red last time.

ThatVikRinA22 · 26/02/2012 19:02

sharon - had the grey (Asphalt) and this time went for a deep red. will have to go for a neutral next time as back in training and coloured nails are a no no but they arent so fussy at district!

found out how to remove it myself now though - yep 100% acetone - you have to soak them and then scrape it off.

ive got a bit of time off too, so had the deep red, will be having a french polish next time as my nails grow so fast that the shellac looks a bit ropey after 2 weeks due to regrowth.

Well that's me told!!

SharonGless · 26/02/2012 21:12

No way! We would get absolutely caned normally for red nails! I might try a neutral or very pale pink although think my nails aren't up for it as quite brittle anyway.

jeansforever · 26/02/2012 22:01

Thanks mrs martin , i was hoping it was a different thing as ive just had my gels taken off after been done for the past 6 months and my nails are awful!!
I did love my nails though is there anything that lasts and doesn't ruin ?

ThatVikRinA22 · 26/02/2012 22:45

well, its not a good thing to go to work with bright nails but compared to some im pretty tame! a woman on my group atm has glittery purple ones....ive seen far worse!

im planning on a neutral or french polish next time. think thats acceptable...says so in the rules!

I have the gellish and it grows out before it lifts or chips. I don't find it damages my nails but I do worry about the UV aging my hands Blush

HorsesDogsNails · 27/02/2012 07:19

Sara the UV exposure is the equivalent of less than 10 mins in the sun. The manufacturers of the lamps have done rigorous testing following a scare in the US. If you're really worried apply sunscreen before your appt or wear fingerless gloves. Your tech will understand your concerns.

If you google Doug Schoon you will find his findings on the subject, he is the foremost scientist in the nail industry.
