It's bugging me....I have got a bit into this colour business.

Anyone got any good links?

Is it basically a Clear/bright Spring?

I know one of you will put me out of my misery.....

Ooh hello QueenCess, I am a blue Spring too!

In my case it means that I suit silver jewellery better than gold, and some of the Winter colours suit me ....

It just means that although your basic skin tone is yellow, you have some blue there too.

I would love a link too though, as I'm still not really clear on what it's all about ... I do know that I look much healthier since I stopped wearing black clothes though!

Hopefully · 23/02/2012 16:11

I think it equates to a clear/bright spring in other systems, and basically means you're at the cool end of spring, so verging into winter.

Gillybobs · 23/02/2012 16:25

Hmmm...Im going to disagree.....HoC consultant told me that Im a Paintbox Spring and that was equivalent to bright/clear spring in other systems.

I have a couple of friends who are blue Springs, they seem to suit silver and gold jewellery (as opposed to gold only as other springs do) and the best colours in the palette for them are the blues and greens. They also seem to look best when wearing a few colours of similar depth/brightness, whereas us Paintboxers need high levels of contrast in our outfits (so lots of navy/grey with the bright and light colours as a contrast for example)

HTH

Gillybobs · 23/02/2012 16:27

As a matter of interest, are you blonde/blue eyed? The 3 blue springs I know all are.

MrsMcEnroe · 23/02/2012 16:31

I am neither blonde nor blue eyed! (Well, dark blonde maybe but brown-eyed).

I have to say that i didn't actually agree with my HOC consultant that the Spring colours suited me at all - I though i looked better with the Winter colours next to my face!

Hopefully · 23/02/2012 16:31

Interesting gilly. Is blue spring at the summer end of spring then, maybe? I know a blue autumn is at the spring end of autumn, iykwim. I would have assumed, therefore, that a blue spring was the autumn end of spring, but the silver jewellery suggests not...

Gillybobs · 23/02/2012 16:41

I think so Hopefully Certainly the blue springs I know have light and soft colouring.
Paintbox Springs are close to winters. Some of my clued up friends had me pegged as a winter. Ive dark hair pale skin and very bright blue eyes. But my hair is warm chestnut brown and although Im pale apparently my skin is warm toned, so Im a Paintbox Spring

Fascinating stuff MrsMcEnroe Although Ive a friend who is chestnut haired and brown eyed and I think she might be blue spring too. Id never have guessed she was spring at all but she undoubtedly rocks the colours.

MrsMcEnroe · 23/02/2012 19:16

Gillybobs and Hopefully I'm now thinking that I need to go back to the HOC consultant and ask for a reassessment! I definitely look sh*t in all autumn colours so I'd be inclined to think that a blue Spring is more towards winter than summer .... aren't spring and autumn the yellow-toned ones, and summer and winter the blue-toned ones? It's very confusing!

Hopefully · 23/02/2012 19:23

MrsMcEnroe I would definitely get back in touch with your consultant. In my (limited) experience they want you to be confident in why they've put you where you are, and I'm sure she'd be happy to go through the drapes and talk through what she's seeing a bit more. My consultant didn't explain each drape as she did it, but after every batch of drapes she went through exactly what she was seeing and why she was leaning a certain way. It really helped make me confident in what she was seeing, especially as I was analysed as a different season to when I had been done with Colour Me Beautiful a few years previously.

Gillybobs · 23/02/2012 20:27

Def agree you should speak to her again if you are confused.

Fundamentally though no matter what type of spring you are, you suit yellow based, warm bright colours rather than anything blue toned or cool. I think the term blue spring is confusing you. I dont think its really that important what type of spring you are. And you would look sht in Autumn colours if you are a Spring? Youd also look sht in summer and winter colours too.

If you work with your swatch palette, maybe concentrating on your ** colours first, you should really see the difference it makes when you wear them, especially if you wear them close to your face. I started with some tops and scarves and have built my new wardrobe from there.

But yes, def email her for some clarification

jumpinghoops · 23/02/2012 20:31

I

jumpinghoops · 23/02/2012 20:34

Whoops! I was just told I was a spring with HOC, although all if the spring blues were my best colours. My consultant did say I could go as far into the autumn palette as a pretty dark teal/ kingfisher but that was the only colour that was outside the normal spring s

jumpinghoops · 23/02/2012 20:39

Anyway Blush my main point here was can you not just work with yr book with double stars and stars, at least to begin with, rather than get caught up in whether they fall into 'blue spring' or 'clear spring' or whatever other terms they may use? I agree that you may want to contact the consultant again though if you don't feel happy, for me it is quite clear that the colours bring life and warmth to my face.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 23/02/2012 20:41

It does sound confusing, but maybe you're mistaken in assuming you can only wear obviously spring-like, ie warm colours.

I know they're not quite the same, but a lot of Kettlewell Colours' spring colours are the same as my summers. And I have an emerald turquoise and a teal, which are both on the spring palette. Likewise, mink and taupe appear on both summer and autumn.

In my actual swatch book, I have quite a vivid, pillarbox red and a coral. But they'll be recommended to varying degrees depending on your individual characteristics.

Not sure I'm explaining this very well - yes get your consultant to explain it!

Gillybobs · 23/02/2012 20:55

Good point Shotgun , the swatch book is full of colours that dont appear obviously "warm and bright" (the spring mantra) so there is no need to feel hemmed in at all. I wear compliant colours 99% of the time, I wear tonnes of different colour combos, and there are still colours from my swatch book I havent bought yet. The possibilities are endless

So yes, get shopping with your swatch book, thats all there is to it really

hellymelly · 23/02/2012 21:03

I've never had my colours "done" but I'm wondering about it.I know someone who does it,but it is expensive so that has made me hesitate. I also assume I know to some degree what colours suit me but maybe not. I have greeny eyes and light brown hair highlighted to blonde,I am pretty pale.(celtic). Anyone know what colours I should be wearing? I'm curious to see if they would be what I tend to choose myself.

Gillybobs · 23/02/2012 21:07

helly Its pretty difficult to guess. You need to see the effect the different coloured drapes have on your skin tone/undereye circles etc to believe it! I thought it was a load of woooo til I saw it with my own eyes. Id never say I was warm skinned (pale celtic skin also) but although Im pale it is warm toned. I know others with pale pale skin who are cool toned.

FWIW its the best £200 Ive ever spent as its saved me a fortune in "wrong" clothes. So worth it

hellymelly · 23/02/2012 21:08

Looking at those kettlewell colours I wear Autumn at the moment! Do you think its worth having it done then? and which company is best?

jumpinghoops · 23/02/2012 21:11

helly, I won't try and guess but just wanted to say- I did think it was expensive but for me it really has been worth it. To be honest, I thought I was a Spring and I was- I did choose clothes previously in turquoises and coral- but my eyes have been opened to some colours in the Spring palette that I never would have chosen before. Violet is one of my best colours and not one I had ever worn and one that I now get complimented on a lot. My make up has totally changed and I sort of feel like a different person. I did think it was expensive, but probably one of the best investments I made.

jumpinghoops · 23/02/2012 21:13

I went to a House of Colour consultant- my neighbour went through Colour Me Beautiful and (I'm not sure if this is the norm) she was given a book with all of her season colours but not given any indiciation of best colours.

Gillybobs · 23/02/2012 21:40

jumping your experience is almost exactly like mine - Id guessed spring after reading loads and loads online and knowing turquoise and coral were amazing colours on me - but like you I now realise there are so many other colours equally flattering. And having the confidence to wear new combinations Id NEVER have thought of. And yy to wearing new makeup. I was wearing muted lippy, since being persuaded to wear bright warm lippy (and it did take some persuading, believe me) it has totally changed my face and I get compliments all the time.

And really is the case that if you buy only from your colour palette everything really does goes together. Ive got less in my wardrobe (although still more than the average person id guess) but never feel like Ive got nothing to go with a certain top - because all the colours work together unlike before.

Wow that's fantastic Everything! I remember you saying ages ago on another thread you were hoping to do it.
I'd love to do the same but there aren't any vacancies in my area (despite the consultant having changed three or four times since I first went). I suspect the consultants often have friends ready to step in when they decide to move on.
Maybe I'll stalk you Grin

jumpinghoops · 23/02/2012 21:56

NYE- I've skimmed the avid & wise thread before and seen your name on there, where are you based? I really did like my HoC Consultant but would possibly look to go elsewhere for a style day in the future. Are you training for the whole raft of HoC classes or just colours? (not sure how it works!)
