Doing up our bedroom and plan on treating ourselves to nicer bedding.

Can anyone recommend shops/websites, thread counts etc and help me avoid expensive mistakes?

Thanks oh stylish ladies Smile

Go for something with as high a thead count as possible. I seem to be quite lucky when I go in TKMaxx - I got a 700thread count 6piece duvet set (king size) for £80 - total bargain.

Egyptian cotton can make a difference but ime thread count is much more important.

Company called thebestbedlinenintheworld

They supply luxury hotels etc. The cotton is fantastically soft and washes really well. Highly recommended

I went to a linen shop at Clarks Village in Street and got a high thread count Egyptian cotton king duvet and pillowcases for £49 I think. My Christmas present to myself. It's absolutely divine.

Really good quality & value at www.duvetandpillowwarehouse.co.uk/ Duvet & Pillow Warehouse]]

Link fail Blush Duvet & Pillow Warehouse

I have DAWP and it's awful, creases terribly. Maybe just got unlucky with my set. Linea is really good, decent sales too at House of Fraser.

RatDesPaquerettes · 22/02/2012 17:53

I would also recommend duvet and pillow warehouse.

RatDesPaquerettes · 22/02/2012 17:53

... but yes, I need to iron their duvet covers.

TK MAXX

Yes, we have thousand thread count and even my husband thinks it feels amazing.

(This is a man for whom clothes/towels/linens don't even cross his radar.)

upahill · 22/02/2012 19:00

What is classed as a high thread count? Confused

mrsmartin · 22/02/2012 19:06

I think most count 350 plus as higher grade - all of mine is between 500-700 and I haven't stayed in a hotel yet where the sheets feel better (though have never gone 5* in MauritiusWink)

HazleNutt · 22/02/2012 19:10

I have a 1000tc from here, really nice

You can't beat John Lewis own. Thread count from 200 to 1000. We have 400 and 200 and both are lovely.

Keep any eye out on The White Company too- theirs is nice but more pricey- cheaper in their sales.

mrsmartin · 22/02/2012 19:19

yowza - at £196 for a 6 piece set (and that doesn't include vat) it wants to be really nice!!! yikes!

ElectricSoftParade · 22/02/2012 19:24

I love Eygptian cotton bedding and have some from approx 15 years ago which is still like new. Sadly, we bought a bigger bed and it doesn't fit ours so guests get it .

Even sadder, I have a little savings pot which is dedicated to me getting king size Eygptian cotton bedding. Well, it will make me happy for years and years... Grin

An0therName · 22/02/2012 21:31

just bought a new duvet cover from king of cotton - very nice 400 thread - 80 pounds including 2 pillow cases

Jbck · 22/02/2012 21:31

Thanks all, I'm only looking for sheets and pillowcases just now and probably go for 400 or 500. Fitted, flat and two h/wife, already bought a nice new duvet set to compliment new curtains but not egyptian.
DH is terribly accident prone and almost every sheet I have has had blood on it at some point, from one gash or other. If I went for something much dearer and he ruined it I'd not be a happy bunny. Grin
I'll check out all the recommendations. Budget around a £100 so I should get something decent for that by the sounds of it.
