Best home hair colour for dark hair?

I don't want to change my colour, just cover the grey bits. I usually have it done at the hairdressers but can't afford to go at the moment and my roots are looking vile.

I have just done mine with the John Frieda moussey type one ( on offer in Tesco atm). Really easy, covered all my greys, maybe a tad darker than I would have liked but I'm quite pleased with the result.

I've tried them all and always go back to Nice and Easy. Found the mousse ones tricky to manage after years of using the creams. I'm medium brown but find the browns in N&E make me go too dark so I always use one of the dark blondes. 106 I think is the one I get.

Castng creme gloss, I find a lot of home colours for dark hair can be slightly dull but as suggested by the name this is lovely and glossy. Good range of shades too.

I use Goldwell Topchic, which you have to order online as it's a professional colour. It's what my hairdresser uses. I have dark brown hair (fairly dark, but not really dark), and use 6NN with the 20 volume developer for 40 minutes. 6NN is dark blonde, but the way I use it it comes out medium/light brown and just looks like I have highlights. I used to use L'Oreal Excellence - either dark brown or medium brown, and do just the roots every 6 weeks, but my hair just ended up really dark.

I use a L'Oreal Castings one called Truffle and it's a really nice shade - natural but nicer iykwim and makes my hair lovely and glossy.

I also use the John Frieda mousse one. Never EVER use Excell 10 or you may end up looking like a witch as I did last Summer!Grin
