you can see every pore on my chin and round my mouth - if I scrape my finger nail across my face it removes it iyswim....

I have a clean smooth face this morning but it doesn't last (used Sanctury hot cloth cleaner). Was using primer and lilylolo but recently switched to Buourgious Healthy Skin (which I like) to see if things better. Not used a primer though..

This is a pretty recent thing for me - my skin has never been congested before not so porey. Also getting a bit of facial hair (god I sound lovely don't it) and never had that before. Thankfully I'm blonde though...

you haven't said what moisturiser you are using?

dodgyroots · 20/02/2012 18:18

I'm using basic moisturizer - Nivea visage atm.Skin is clean and smooth in the morning - pores just start sticking out as day goes on. It's like my sebum as gone into overdrive!

joanofarchitrave · 20/02/2012 18:21

Try not using moisturiser for a few days?

dodgyroots · 20/02/2012 18:26

Skin is quite dry - I guess I could not use it on my Tzone and see if that helps...

No no no - if your skin is producing excess sebum it is because there isn't enough moisture in the skin - It is the skin's defence mechanism. I used to have a veritable slick of oil come lunchtime until I started putting oil on my face. The presence of the oil stops the skin from over-producing sebum. Try using a facial oil under your moisturiser (you only need 3 drops) and an oil control primer.

dodgyroots · 20/02/2012 18:44

see I would never have thought to try that - thanks. I have almond oil and pure vitamin E oil in the house - would either of them do?

I actually scrapped my face with a bit of cardboard this afternoon! and, though red for a while, the pores were declogged and skin smooth again...

dodgyroots can I ask how old you are?

I've developed exactly the same problems re pores and facial hair and my roots are dodgy too. Finding I'm having to colour hair every 4 weeks now.

I'm 42 by the way.

dodgyroots · 20/02/2012 18:54

I'm 37...roots aren't actually dodgy atm though, but hair is growing quite fast!

I wonder if it my body finally settling down (though in a bad way) after having 2 kids in 2 years (so pregnant or breastfeeding for 4 years). Youngest is 3 now..

It might be a hormonal thing with me too, also having had 2 DCs in 2 years!!

The pores and facial hair are really truly crap tho!! I use a primer but as you say it doesn't last that long and as for the facial hair????? I do pluck a lot of the ones on my chin out.
A beautician friend said that waxing can cause more trouble than its worth!

So this is it then, pock-marked with a beardShock

cybbo · 20/02/2012 19:05

I have one of these and my pores MILES clearer- still big, but cleaner

Also agree facial oil is great- I use Decleor

cybbo · 20/02/2012 19:06

moon I have all your symptoms, am also nearly 42

it shit isnt it

dodgyroots · 20/02/2012 19:09

I've been looking at the Decleor oils - problem is DH between contracts so I can't spend on things like till he has another one. I need a cheap and cheerful solution! Might give the almond oil a go...

I peel twice a week using salicylic acid. Has helped my greasy, spotty skin no end.

SixtyFootDoll · 20/02/2012 19:11

I buy it off eBay 8 quid a bottle. Has calmed my skin down a lot.

dodgyroots · 20/02/2012 19:13

What do you use Sixty? I use the Soap and Glory "The Fab Pore 15 Minute Facial Peel". I use about 3 times a week, not sure if it is helping though..

NotMostPeople · 20/02/2012 20:07

I have the same problem. I've just ordered some Alpha H liquid gold, which everyone raves about and am hoping to get a Clarisonic shortly to help with the pores. In the meantime the benefit pore stuff is fab polly filler.

SixtyFootDoll · 20/02/2012 20:07

dodgyroots · 20/02/2012 20:21

I would be a a bit wary of buying that bottle I'm afraid - I'm really risk averse and have had a reaction with fruit acids before.

The problem isn't that I need a filler, it is that my skin get bumpier, with little white bums of sebum that I can literally scrape off my face, as the day goes on. It is like there is tiny white raised speckles all over my chin...

OP posts:
cybbo · 20/02/2012 20:25

That sounds like its your make up clogging your pores

dodgyroots · 20/02/2012 20:28

Do you know the solution? Switched from mineral to liquid and it has made no difference. I am a foundation girl - no way I'm leaving the house without it Grin

OP posts:
CervixWithASmile · 20/02/2012 20:29

I get this too, like I can see every single pore as a tiny raised white dot. I also have fine facial hair that I think is associated. I get a combination of flaky and oily skin at the same time. I hate it!

mrsmartin · 20/02/2012 20:30

I can't recommend the decleor oils highly enough - it doesn't seem like alot but this is a two month supply if used once a day (obv 1month if used morning and evening). Totally legit seller - I buy from them on the (rare) occassions that I have none left in my stockpile. It is a decleor TSV on qvc on the 29th though (quite poss that there will be an oil in it on easypay?).

Alpha H would probably work for you too

cybbo · 20/02/2012 20:30

I think you need to get your pores really clean to begin. I still find the odd blocked one on my chinny chin chin, but the ones on my forehead are clean as a whistle

CervixWithASmile · 20/02/2012 20:31

I don't think it's make up related as I have the sane thing on the underside of my chin and I don't wear make up there.
