hi there. i am feeling generally rubbish at the moment - having recently had a huge life change, i am now a SAHM and have lost all sense of myself and seem to have stopped bothering with trying to look half decent as no longer going to work . so i need to get a grip and start taking some care/pride in myself so at least i can feel better about something...

i was wondering if it was worth getting my 'colours' done? i have heard a lot about it. what do they doexactly? i was thinking that it may stop me wasting money that i no longer have by buying lots of things that dont go/dont suit. or is it not that kind of thing? i need to make sure that everything i buy now really works and hope that my weight doesnt change now i am feeling fed up and bingeing on biscuits and not fruit all day!

ps am in south - hampshire/wiltshire/dorset area if that helps with any recommendations
thank you

Last time I left the house without make up was circa 1985. Hope I don't scare anyone!

We had tasters at a function last year. The silly woman put everyone under 15 and female in pinks and whites. She told me never to wear "that nasty black scarf" near my face again. OK, but it was purple, and not even a dark purple.

Then she gave me a ticket for a complimentary do, but it was actually only for a party of 6 or more with one going free. Nice way of drumming up business for a woman who can't tell black from purple.

Anyway, that's my experience. Have fun.

Hi shelley, how did it go?

wickedfairy · 03/03/2012 12:35

Give us an update Shelley!

I have my appointment booked for next Friday with HoC - looking forward to it.

I will report back once I have been - I am hoping for miracles Smile

ok im back! well i have to say that leaving the house without make up (esp after 3 night wakings last night) was quite traumatic. after jux's comments last night i was in two minds about whether it would be worth it. have to say im still not sure...

BUT i think thats only because i had an inkling that i was a winter and indeed i am a dark bright winter. as soon as i saw the colour wheel i recognised that my wardrobe was full of 'winter' colours so i really hoped that i was! i was draped with a white cover and she started holding up colours against me and said this is no good, it makes you look tired, ill, yellow etc or this is good - it makes your eyes sparkle, you dont look as tired etc. tbh i couldnt really notice that much difference - with no make up i look completely knackered and ill anyway! but some colours definately looked better than others. she then put some make up on - foundation, blusher and some dubious lipsticks that were probably very good colours for winters but not something i would wear. maybe in time. we then went through every winter colour and rated them as to what i could wear head to toe, 75% (eg dress), 50% (eg top) or 25% accessories}. i also have the wallet so that i can go through my wardrobe adn take shopping.

the worst thing was though, under no circs should i wear tan so my lovely P&M lucia bag is not good for me. however i am going to rebel and wear it anyway Smile

haha! This is like reading something I'd written the day of my draping....

Id guessed I was Spring before I went...I thought the lippy was hideous...I was horrified at the thought of not wearing my beautiful black shoes and bags again...

Anyway, 6 months on and its been a journey and a half. I now recognise I look so much better with proper Spring lippy on, I just needed to tone down the rest of my makeup to make it work. And if you shop well with your swatch wallet it really is true that before long everything you own works together and you feel like you have so many more options. I never ever feel like Ive nothing to wear now. Before draping my wardrobe was bursting at the seams but I still felt the need to buy something new every time I had an invite somewhere. Not any more.

Give it time and you will def feel like its been worth it.

I am a deep summer, which is the same colours as you but a little sifter, as if they have a drop of milk in them

And i still wear tan bags, shoes and belts
