Help with clingy static dress!

I have a lovely shift style dress that is 100% polyester, which I wear with leggings. However, after a couple of washes, it became really static and the skirt bit now clings to me so tightly that you can literally see the outline of my fanjo.

What I'd like to know is, why did this happen? (Is it anything to do with the material of my leggings or the lining of my coat?) Can I stop it happening with others (another synthetic dress is beginning to cling) and most importantly, can I do anything about it now? Otherwise I'm just going to have to throw this lovely dress away Sad

Spray hairspray on your tights and leggings to stop static cling. You could also try wearing a petticoat as an extra layer between.

Interesting re hairspray, but not sure about the smell.

Would the petticoat need to be made of any particular material? Considering many of them are synthetic, wouldn't I end up with the same problem?

hairspray works -just pick one you like the smell of

Rubbing those tumble dryer towels on it, are suppose to help too.

Hmm, maybe I will give the hairspray a whirl then, thanks.

Anyone used the tumble dryer towels?

do you use fabric conditioner? if not it should do the trick as its lack of moisture... #apparently

Ooh that's interesting Magicmayhem, because I've only just started using fabric conditioner after my mum made me feel inferior for not using it but only after I had washed that dress. I will run it through with loads of fabric conditioner and see what happens!
