I need a pair of non-matching children's shoes.

Can anyone help? DD hatesthings that match. Not a problem with socks or gloves but she throws major tantrums whenever she has to wear matching shoes which makes leaving the house somewhat difficult! I thought converse used to sell pairs of different coloured trainers which I think would work but I've just spent ages googling and can't find them anywhere.

Does anyone know where I could get a pair of mismatched shoes? I'm so fed up of arguing with the little weirdo my DD.

Two cheap second hand pairs on ebay???

SherlockHolmes · 19/02/2012 20:46

How old is she? Sorry to say, but it smacks a bit of pandering to her whims ....

SoupDragon · 19/02/2012 20:48

Buy something cheap and decorate each one differently.

RustyBear · 19/02/2012 20:48

How about getting a pair of canvas shoes and decorating them differently (or let your DD do it if she's old enough - fabric paints, different coloured laces Etc - just googling 'decorate shoes' will find lots of ideas.

Scootergrrrl · 19/02/2012 20:49

Trainers with different coloured laces?

PrisonerOfWaugh · 19/02/2012 20:49

Can't you make them 'unmatch' on the inside - use fabric pens or something. Sell it as something special only she knows?

Catsmamma · 19/02/2012 20:50

Just say "No!"

really.

Unlurked · 19/02/2012 20:52

19months. I probably am pandering to her whims but I need to get the older kids to where they need to be in the morning on time and I'm so fed up with the tears every single morning. I'm quite happy for her to go shoeless or wear mismatched shoes if she's in the buggy or sling but not for actually walking about in.

Two pairs of eBay shoes is a v good idea, thanks for that Smile

get her a pair of cheap plims from primark that she can do whatever she wants with glitter, pen, sequins, whatever. Also get her a pair of proper shoes. Then she can wear her plims as a treat when she has been good but the proper shoes will be her everyday pair. If you pander to her now then you will be fucked forever.

Unlurked · 19/02/2012 20:54

All great ideas, thank you!

And I do say no. I've been saying no for months. I would like an alternative to saying no!

what about different coloured laces?

4madboys · 19/02/2012 21:01

the new lellie kelli range this year lets you choose two diff shoes to make up your pair! easicallly its this years 'theme' for lellie kelli, they are animal themed and you choose the two you want and buy them as a pair, you can buy two the same but the idea is that you buy two different shoes! i saw them this week in my local shoe shop.

will have a google and see if i can find a link!

4madboys · 19/02/2012 21:03

www.lellikellyshop.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=179

here you choose which design you want for each foot, on the link it says chose 'right shoe' and then choose 'left shoe' so you get a pair but they are different!

not cheap of course but they are good shoes, and quite sweet for a toddler :)

Haberdashery · 19/02/2012 21:09

If you pander to her now then you will be fucked forever.

This.

I also second the idea of plimsolls and fabric paint/glitter glue/whatever as a cheap non-matching shoe idea if there are days when you really need it to be easy.

Also, if you buy her Lelli Kelly shoes, you will also be fucked forever as you will probably have to keep buying them (they seem to be the pinnacle of desire for small girls) and while the baby ones are quite pretty in a sugary kind of way the older girl ones are absolutely minging.

Hulababy · 19/02/2012 21:11

Cheap fabric pumps and decorate yourself.

Some of the Startrite canvas pumps are different on each shoe, but still a pair IYSWIM.

Hulababy · 19/02/2012 21:13

Haberdashery, DD grew out of Lelli Kelly style shoes by about 7y or 8y. So only had 3 years or so of them. Some styles are not too ott even in older styles.

Unlurked · 19/02/2012 21:14

Brilliant thanks so much! Looks like I'll be buying some laces for her existing shoes and some Lelli Kellies and home decorated canvas shoes for spring time (which is when she'll need new shoes anyway).

H&M are selling little canvas trainers in four or five different colours, they are slip ons (no laces etc) for £5.99. They are lovely and they do them in small sizes.

4madboys · 19/02/2012 21:18

well my dd is only 14mths and just starting to walk, i may get her some lellie kelly shoes to begin with, will see what fits her feet best, last summer they had some lovely ones that were pale blue with ladybirds on!! i cant see them in this years range :( but they are only little once and i love to get them cheerful, colourful shoes, my boys have had red or green or whatver other colour i can get, pepino and ricosta do some lovely colourful shoes and they are only little once and quickly grow out of it, and then once at school its boring black anyway so i say go for it when she is little! chipandbiff · 19/02/2012 21:56

Not sure about shoes OP, although it sounds like you now have this covered- but in terms of other clothing, there is a brand of clothes that we have bought gifts from called Little MissMatched- its American I think? Although I think Ive seen them in Hamleys too? They make socks etc.... All deliberately miss matched. The items we've bought have been well received- albeit with slightly older girls-6yrs +.....if your DD still likes miss matched times in a few years...!!!

Dillydollydaydream · 19/02/2012 22:06

Clarks Doodles and Startrite canvas shoes are matching pairs but with slightly different designs on. Not sure if you can get them as its not quite the season yet.

Unlurked · 19/02/2012 22:16

Thanks chipandbiff, I'll check that out too. She's extremely quite stubborn so it wouldn't surprise me if she hasn't let the mismatched thing go by the time she's 6!

I'm just waiting for someone else to appear on the thread and tell me they have a child that hates matching things too... I fear I may be waiting sometime (perhaps because no one else panders to their children like I do!).

NonnoMum · 19/02/2012 22:20

Don't Doodles sometimes have slightly different canvas shoes... like a mermaid on one foot and a fish on the other?

(As for letting her role the roost - I'm with ya, sister, anything for a quiet life. There is no reasoning with toddlers!)

Unlurked · 19/02/2012 23:36

Thanks nonnomum I'll keep an eye out for them too. There really is no reasoning with her, she can throw quite a spectacular tantrum when the mood takes her! Polar opposite to dd1 who just doesn't do tantrums but does do reasoning very well! Dd2 is a bit more... challenging Grin
