My DS 11 has just developed dandruff. Can anyone recommend a decent shampoo that will help him with it! Thanks

We've first tried Head and Shoulders which worked for a bit.

Then we tried a brown coloured one which I can't remember the name of which worked for a while.

DS hasn't had dandruff for a while but I've bought a bottle of Nizoral from the pharmacy which is meant to be the creme de la creme of anti-dandruff shampoos. And so it should be at £9.50!! Good LuckSmile

My brother had terrible dandruff as a teenager and only Nizoral worked.

Mind you, he went bald at 19...

Maybe give Nizoral a miss then Grin

Head and Shoulders. Is there any question?

ihatethecold · 19/02/2012 19:06

I always thought that head and shoulders was not good. Isn't it used to remove colour from hair if you dye it the wrong colourSmile

Why wouldn't it be good? It must be the No.1 anti-dandruff shampoo in the world. It couldn't get there if it didn't work.

And no, it's not used to remove colour. It is a good shampoo base with anti-bacterial added to it. There is no bleach in it.

Head and shoulders always... It's really the best dandruff shampoo out there and is actually quite gentle. DH uses it everyday and has done for about 18 years (he still has all his hair Grin) and hasn't had dandruff for those 18 years.

If he has a sore, sensitive scalp then Aveda's Scalp Remedy is also quite good.

ihatethecold · 19/02/2012 19:16

He doesn't have any other scalp problems, just a bit off dandruff that has appeared overnight.
Will give H&S a go then

Davida I hate to let you in ion a secret but head and shoulders does strip hair dye out,I know as I have done it myself and recommended it to several people on here.It was a hairdresser from a very expensive salon that gave me that tip, even though she could have jus charged me for a colour correction she told me it was so harsh it would strip it out to a few shades lighter and it did work.

DavidaCottonmouth · 19/02/2012 21:07

It doesn't strip out hair dye any more than any other shampoo. I hate to let you in on that little secret.

Petrean · 19/02/2012 21:09

My DH has used it every day for 18 years... If it had any bleaching properties at all I'm sure we would have noticed by now.

DavidaCottonmouth · 19/02/2012 21:11

Hairdressers have done day release to community colleges. They really are not in a position to comment on products developed by top scientists and engineers.

Hoopsadazy · 19/02/2012 21:13

I have used one from Lush for my toddler. Can't remember the name - something float - soak float? He has dry skin and it cleared up after two washes or so. Now use it once a week. Has your DS started using something like gel or whatever on his hair? Could be that drying out and making the flakes rather than dandruff?

BehindLockNumberNine · 19/02/2012 21:18

My 12 year old ds developed dandruff 6 months or so ago. Head and Shoulders are keeping it under control nicely.
He has very very dark brown hair (almost black) and there has been no hint of any bleaching what so ever. In fact his hair is nice and shiny and dark and glossy (and everything mine is not...)

Head and Shoulders, definately!

Loveleopardprint · 19/02/2012 22:05

Ginger shampoo from the body shop is good. Head and shoulders hurts my eyes.
