Hello - I have an interview coming up. the environment is one where when working some people dress up some wear jeans - i know that if i get teh post i can pretty much dresss as i choose - depending on the situation - but i want to look smart for the interview - first impressions etc.

i dont want to go for the suit look - i am thinking nice herrringbone wide leg trousers or similar with smartish top or shirt and good cardigan - maybe bodenesque long cardigan or similar? i went shopping the other day and came back with nothing. I am a bit stuck as havent needed to attend interview for some time.

I am tall withlarge derriere and boobs are ample - i am also a bit padded out round the tummy area - i sound lovely. any suggestions for outfits please

you cant go wrong with smart trousers and a smart casual top a'la zara, mango, hobbs stylee...just make sure you are comfortable in what you wear.

Good luck Smile

I agree a nice smart pair of trousers with boots and a lovely top.

NomDePrune · 19/02/2012 11:10

I would go as smart as you can while still feeling comfortable. You don't know that the people interviewing you won't be in suits. I think a shirt always trumps a top in a work situation, don't know why.

thanks - think mango bit young for me and although love hobbs i am a bit curvy these days and dont tend to look good in their tops - if i can get into them.

i know a simple suit and shirt would look very smart but it doesnt really sit well with the environment - so am thinking good trousers (wool maybe check - herringbone) then nice top (shell top style not t-shirt) and dressy cardigan - a la boden - alhtough went on boden last night and not very impressed with this seasons offerings. teamed with smart necklace i think i could look ok. What i really want is for some fab mumsnetter to find me an outfit Wink

How about a smart dress like this:

www.marksandspencer.com/Scoop-Neck-Angle-Flared-Dress/dp/B001RJO88I?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_26&nodeId=308803031&sr=1-26&qid=1329651325

With funky beads, and a cardi and/or trench coat?

katiewins22 · 20/02/2012 21:42

thanks - lovely dress - but i hardly ever wear dresses (except for summer dresses) - so i dont think i would feel comfortable in it. I would really like nice trousers and top/cardigan combo but looking for outfit inspiration.

Having had exactly this slightly casual interview dilemma last week I wore
these trousers
A white shirt from here
And flat ballet pumps with a toe cap - can't find the link for those but if you go to my thread about, um, nether regions, a few pages back you'll find it. I put a zara jacket over it - suit style but in very dark blue kind of denimy fabric to chime with the shoes and to keep a casual edge to it
The outfit worked for me. Good luck!

Hobbs have got some lovely wool cardis at the moment. Machine washable as well. I got a purple one and I'm thinking of investing in another. Smartens up my trousers and boots outfit of choice a treat.

MissMarjoribanks · 20/02/2012 22:05

I wear my cardi this one with the Ashley dress here as well as trousers. Some beads and brown heeled brogues to complete the look.
