she is mother of the bride but is not into the traditional 'mother of the bride' outfits you'd think of. She doesn't do hats, she doesn't really do very smart/over the top.

She is 65, slim(size 10-12) but a little bit of a tummy, hates her legs ("too skinny & varicose veined") so would have to be something way over the knee that she could wear thick tights with (even in summer), or trousers. She is conscious of her (IMO not half as bad as mine) bingo wings so needs to be 3/4 or long sleeved.
Can't be in any way low cut either.
She likes greens and mauves, would prefer something with a bit of a pattern.

this is something she likes but sleeves are prob too short

budget is £150 tops

Would a wrap/ x-over dress solve the problem? Most HS shops have them, most have 3/4 sleeves and there are any number of patterns. The gentle gathering across the tummy is helpful too.

A smart clutch, shoes and necklace would crisp everything up. If the budget allows you could still perhaps get a neat little jacket or sling over a pashmina.

yes wrap/x-over would be good. Er, what/where is HS??

What's about trousers like there

sitsyou · 19/02/2012 17:39
Blush those trousers are cool, maybe a bit too cool for my mum

No, they'd look lovely with a silk top and heels.

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 19/02/2012 19:04

this?

piprabbit · 19/02/2012 19:17

this? I think you can choose other colours too.

sitsyou · 19/02/2012 22:43

mistletoe unfortunately that's waaay too short for my mum (also a bit too structured for her style)
pip that's lovely but reviews are well dodgy

I think you should go with my original link and show her what I chose.

It ticks all the boxes!
