For Mini Boden anyway, all just so OTT and bleugh. And I am usually (though less in the last couple of years) a fan.

I just want some shorts for DC and a couple of T'shirts - not a chance unless they bring out some more items!

And please, enough with the nasty plastic beads and garish prints.

My thoughts exactly = per una

hattymattie · 18/02/2012 17:15

poly I agree with you but there does seem to be an assumption about older women's tastes - ie. per una, bhs and now Boden. Ahhhhgh - we want to be stylish too but not mutton dressed as lamb.

ameliagrey · 18/02/2012 17:37

Sorry, i want my waist to show not my wasit!
I am half looking at the broderie dress in navy but every summer dress I have is blue or navy. It's not a smart dress but might be okay for a very hot day.

I think there is a very Kirsty Allsop look about all the flowery frocks this time.

ameliagrey · 18/02/2012 17:38

Oh and Ijust don't do florals very well.

I think frumpy styles in floral are ghastly when you are in your 50s.

I want PLAIN and in quality fabric.

I've been very disapointed with Boden this year. I brought a lot less in the autumn winter range as well. My boys are both too old for Boden now, the 14 yr old wouldn't wear johnnie b if i paid him tO it's not cool enough for the market it's aimed at (and reviews and threads in here seem to suggest that it's trendier adults who buy it and not teens) and the appliqués tshirts are too young for my 10yr old.
Dd1 is 6 in march and between sizes 5-6 is too short but 7-8 is massive on her. So luckily the only things I've seen for her are a couple of pairs of shorts and a skirt and thats from both the spring and summer range and I've decided dd2 has enough hand me downs from dd1 and nothing that makes me want to buy for her.
This year we've brought loads from h&m you can't beat the £2.99 jersey sundresses spots stripes and florals,, cute cotton sun dresses, shorts almost identical to mini Boden combat ones at £4.99 as opposed to almost £20. The t-shirts from h&m have been washing And wearing a lot better than last few years Boden. I've also brought from joules and frugi for the girls.
For myself I've brought a fair bit from h&m, Zara, new look and sainsburys. This is from someone who was a die hard Boden monsoon buyer.

margo that picture is shocking.

She looks very unhealthy.

Agree about the waist issue. Empire lines are fine if you're Keira Knightly but not for most people.

mrsebojones · 18/02/2012 17:57

Agree about some of the prints this year - I'm not anti prints in general either - I just don't like the prints and colourways that boden has gone with this year. They aren't chic and now that I'm bloody 35 I want to be chic and slightly edgy and cool

The only thing from the womens collection that I like this year are the long sleeve breton, the stripe tunic and the boyfriend cardigan in storm - I'm awaiting the arrival of these items - I'll probably end up returning them all now that I've said this Wink. I also have my eye on the ruffle front dress - only the bubble prints as they are the sort of prints I like. Does anyone have it?? Any thoughts on it??

The children's clothes seem to get more and more expensive and the prices harder to justify. Bought DD some really nice bits from M&S for spring. Although I did get her the breton stripe dress in green with a 20% discount and it looks goods on her.

Bienchen · 18/02/2012 18:03

Unhealthy is not the word!

I also find that the models get thinner every year, maybe they have to as the garish prints may well look ghastly on a fuller figure.

Sick of empire line styling as well, it makes my frame look pregnant.

Also sick of all the add-ons: embellished this, huge buttons that, I for one am happy to add my own accessories which allow me maximum mileage out of a few outfits. The embellished crap does not allow (IMO) for accessorizing and totally puts me off.

Have not looked at the kid's stuff as it is overpriced. I tend to buy in the sale for next year and am happy to get stuff from H&M, Sainsbury's and in the past Boots (miniMode). All good quality and much better pricewise.

polyhymnia · 18/02/2012 18:43

Yes, you probably have a point there re the prints - those of us with ampler figures very easily look Hyacinth Bucketish in great big bright prints. Though I don't actually like many of them even on the models this year.

Levantine · 18/02/2012 18:54

You want lands end for kids stuff I tell ya

Much much nicer than boden

Dancergirl · 21/02/2012 16:55

Completely agree, some of the prints are awful!

And yes why so much linen?

You can pick out the odd nice thing though, I wait for the reviews. Have just ordered:

Artisan linen top
Bell sleeve cardigan
Photographer jacket
Jersey maxi dress (in the brown-ish floral - not too garish)
Silver strappy sandals

They've all got good reviews so I'll wait and see!
