Putting hair up

PepeLePew · 15/02/2012 21:42

I have hair that comes to slightly below my jaw line. It's rarely sleek, but I tend to wear it down because I think I am a bit old for a pony tail. But I would like to investigate putting it up - think a slightly messy chignon type thing. I toyed with buying a device in Boots this morning, but have no idea what sort of thing I am after. Nor do I know if my hair is really long enough. Any tips greatly appreciated - am after a slightly more glamorous look than I have managed to date.

I have quite similar length of hair and i kind of twist bits and pin with kirbie grips ,there are some really good tutorials on youtube , just search updos for short hair:)

Gilly is totally right - twisting sections is the way to go until your hair grows. Or you could use something like this hair wrap - I bought mine from claire's accessories - it is this exact one but claire's sell them for £15. I wear them to work when I cba to do my hair - it looks like I've spent hours and no-one has ever questioned if it is real (I dye my hair black and the black option is an exact match).

They had those hair wraps in my local bargain store for only £6 the other day, I dithered over buying one as I too dye my hair jet black and didn't want it to stand out.

Clicked post too soon! I think I'll have a closer look next time I go in.

Were they the ken paves ones Stella or just a normal one? You can get basic ones from ebay for £2 a piece but the quality is shit rubbish. The ken paves ones have lots of different shades in them and the feel of them is much better - they are really thick and look natural. I haven't even let on to DH that it isn't my real hair!! I wear two as I have really long hair and I like quite a big look. Also, mine are over a year old now and they look brand new - I just give them a rinse once every couple of months. I must admit to owning the fringe and the headband fall from the same range - so good when you are on day two hair and want to still look 'salon glam'. I'm going to buy a bob wig next this one as I sometimes miss my bob (my hair used to be exactly like it) but don't want to cut my hair atm.

They were the ones with Jessica Simpson on the packaging, i might drag dp in there tomorrow and have a peruse.

hmmm they must be an older version of the one I bought as the new ones don't have JS on the packaging (she is on all of the other extension/hair pieces still though) but I expect they are the same product - mine have been a godsend.
