Has anyone made their teeth whiter?

I think that the ridiculous American style whiter than white teeth look foolish and false BUT I would like my teeth to be a little bit whiter.

What are my options?

Has anyone whitened their teeth?

no but Id like mine white too

can get them done at dentist but cost £400 !!

think you can buy some stuff off Ebay but I feel nervous about DIY bleaching

will watch this thread with interest

Is bleaching a good idea though? I would worry that it might breach the enamel and make them more brown in the long run. I don't know.

How much difference does bleaching make and how long before one needs to bleach them again?

When people have ridiculously white teeth (like Jodie Marsh for example) are these crowns?

I had some stuff that I bought off QVC - very mild bleach I think - and it did make a difference but made my teeth hypersensitive too for a while ! Can't think what it's called - will look tonight - think they sell it in Boots too.

Basically you paint it on (two stages) and leave for 10 mins ish - either do it in shower or with tissue at ready as you shouldn't swallow it and it makes me dribble !

Also - bought a sonic toothbrush and that has had excellent effect too !

I had it done a couple of years ago at my dentist. t is quite expensivebut the results lasted for a good 6-8 months (i was a big smoker at the time and coffee drinker too).

They also didn't go whiter than white but were definitely natural looking.

It isn't completely pain free - all my teeth ached for a couple of days and he recommended that I used painkillers. I have never done the DIY kit though.

HTH

Spidermama, stupidly 'snow-blindess' teeth are generally veneers (v v v expensive)

bubblerock · 25/01/2006 14:56

Hi Spidermama, I remembered a thread from when I first joined MN about teeth bleaching it's HERE loads of positive stories about DIY kits!

Spidermama · 25/01/2006 16:41

Thanks all. I'll have a look at the link BR.

I worry about these stories of teeth hurting after treatment because I worry that the enamel has been damaged.

I second a sonic toothbrush - recommended by a dentist friend - it has whitened my teeth, not hugely but enopugh that several people have commented how nice my teeth are.

i am tempted to do a diy kit, I want venners for my 40th in April but so far dh hasnt aid yes

I used White Light whilst in the US in the summer. It made a huge difference to my coffee-and-red-wine-abused teeth. I've got before and after pics somewhere which show the difference. Sadly I didn't buy extra bleach to bring back with me and the staining has returned (still abusing, well given up the red wine but not coffee).

It was v simple to use, took just 10 mins each day. I used it after I'd cleaned my teeth following brekkie but it would be just as easy doing ten mins in the evening in front of the telly.

Another system that looked useful was Ionic White

Just checked - mine is called Rapid WHite and was £17.40 for two tubes. They have it on QVC now at www.qvcuk.com

Blanx toothpaste is excellent I haven't used it for about 6 months and I really notice it.This thread has prompted me to get down to Boots tomorrow for some xx

Bought gel and tray from the smile place (www.the-smile-place.com) - basically you pay £99 and they send you some moulding stuff which you bite into and send back to them to make up a proper tray for your teeth (as would a dentist) -they then send you the finished tray plus gel and you wear overnight or 3 hours daily for a week or so. Very good results and white teeth. A bit pricey but considering the price of some of the toothpastes which are not always brilliant a real bargain. Also the same quality as a dentist which would cost about £500.
