Best range / products for a teens make-up lesson

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'd like to take my teenaged dd for a skincare and make-up lesson/demonstration this half-term. She's just started 'practicing' with some of my old foundation and becomes enraged if I point out any inconsistencies in her application!! (I mean that she's RUBBISH at putting it on!!). She's not receptive to any of my 'hints' so thought some tips from an expert would be more readily received!!

I use Bare Minerals but really don't want to pay out mega bucks for what would be a very simple daily make-up routine - none's worn to school etc. Have any of you any recommendations for a skincare/makeup range suitable for girls of this age? I would definitely like her to have a lesson in how to apply minimal make-up because she looks positively scary if left to her own devices!!! (We live near Southampton so have a great range of shops nearby). TIA

I think Clarins or Dermalogica both do teen skincare ranges. For foundation, it might be worth getting her the No 17 or Garnier BB cream if it's light enough - or a tinted moisturiser. Both cheap and less likely to turn her orange than cheapo foundation. For a makeup 'lesson' or a makeover, I'd say Benefit or Mac.

If any use - dd1 is 17 and currently using mainly -

Garnier BB cream (but it's a bit too dark) or a Boots Natural Collection v cheap and non-orange foundation

Posytint on cheeks and lips

Maybeline lash extension mascara

Mac eyeshadow in Shale (used to line with a fine brush too).

DD2 is 14 and uses - Natural Collection foundation / Maybeline mascara / pink vaseline on lips

Bobbi Brown do make up lessons - DD went as a present from PIL. The make up consultant was really good and just showed her how to look natural. Products are VERY pricey though!

PIL also gave DD the Bobbi Brown Teenage Beauty book which I was impressed with as it celebrates different appearances and doesn't go heavy on the make up!

Thanks for your responses. I've taken note of your recommendations. I hope my dd does, too. Do Body Shop still offer this service? I can vaguely remember getting some advice here many years ago!!

I bought my dd the Garnier BB cream for exactly this reasona and it's been brilliant, the perfect in between not as mask like as foundation but it makes enough difference to be worth doing.

I was going to say Clinique but Body Shop is also a good idea. Both have nice skincare and makeup, so you can get everything in one go and they should be happy to demonstrate. If you can go to a Debenhams, Clinique is on Bonus Time at the moment so you would get some freebies.

The downside to going to a beauty counter in a dept store is that the make up is likely to be expensive and they do push you to buy the products. Even the body shop is expensive these days.
How about a private lesson with her own cosmetics, my local salon offer make up lessons along with facials. I'm sure if you contacted one they might be able to sort something out. Or local beauty college?

I took my 14 yer old DD to Bare Minerals and bought her the starter set as part of her birthday present. The girl on the counter was really nice, taking a lot of time to show her how to use it properly and so far the results have been good.

That's interesting, BB. I may have to reconsider ..........................
