An alternative to conventional Hair Dye please?

I have a severe allergy to hair dye, the kind you buy in a box. Unfortunately for me it means that my favourite shade of Bitter Chocolate is no longer available to me for the usual price of around £7 but the inflated price of £130 at the hairdressers for foil colouring.

I miss being able to spend a couple of hours during a 'me' session of dying my hair and am getting narked off with spending so much money having colouring done every couple of months. Does anyone know of a herbal/non chemical hair dye that may suit for people with allergy to hair dye?

Have a look through the threads on here - there is one that was still active a day or two ago...lot's of people rave about it - I used it as a teenager and the shine is great.

Herbatint and Daniel Fields are more natural and less likely to give you a reaction. Do a search of the threads on here - there is lots of info

I have used Lush Henna for a couple of years but have just decided to stop for a couple of reasons:

First, you really need to do it every 4 weeks for it to look good and it IS a bit of a faff to do yourself so often that I never bothered doing more than every couple of months.

Secondly, it started to block the drains on my bath!

So I am back to the permanent chemical dye at the hairdressers (which is reasonable price and a nice result which doesn't wreck my hair.)

Shame, though, as the henna does look good - it leaves natural looking highlights in on the grey hairs, and leaves your hair in a nice condition.

It's worth a try but be prepared for faff, mess and doing it every month.

My hair is down past my shoulders so it does sound like twice the amount of work compared to a conventional dye in terms of how often you have to do it...thanks for the suggestions ladies - will check them out! Grin
