How to remove a ring

Ideas please as I can't get a ring off my frail mother's finger and the nursing staff have asked me to do this as her fingers are swollen.

I have tried washing them, emollients, icepack.

Many thanks

olive oil and patience. if the worst comes to the worst it can be cut off and then remade. good luck :)

THANK YOU :).

Great idea about olive oil - used it for cradle cap - very useful stuff!

If she is in hospital ask them to refer her to a&e as they do this alot, there is a method involving cotton wrapped around the finger and then threaded under the ring before being pulled gently back up the finger, i've managed to get rings of people this way before.

That's very interesting - I will try this too. Sadly she is in a nursing home as she has advanced Alzheimer's.

THANK YOU :>

They'll be used to this, most jewellers have a tool for it. You should call around and see if anyone is available to pop in and do it for your mum.

Its basically a little hook with a grinder that cuts the ring off. It does mean that the ring will be damaged (although not irrepairable) but it's a very low stress/no pain option

THANK YOU. :)

There is a local jeweller! Great it is a pain free solution and low stressful - my mother has hallucinations and her emotions are all over the place, so anything quick and easy would be useful.

Hood luck I know both my Dmum and DMIL have had their wedding rings taken off by jewellers and made bigger.
DMIL in something of a hurry because she got an infection gardening and her finger swelled up.
Both said it was very simple they were just Sad because neither of them ever took their rings off.
