Static hair - what do you do with it?

My hair has always been fine and flyaway. But the cold weather has made it go really static - I mean if I put a jumper on, it sticks up on end, and every time I put a brush through it, I have to "unstick" it from the brush. Looks awful. What do you do with it?

Wondering if I should just get it all cut off :(

Hair oil is all you need. Tiny amount, warm through hands (almost rub in like hand cream) then smooth through mid lengths and ends = bye bye static. Anything with argan oil is good, as is loreal mythic oil (I use daily as smells gorgeous) and tres semme salon smooth serum (has argan oil in it and is cheap & readily available).

Or hairspray. Rub a bit between your hands and smooth it over your hair to smooth down the loose bits.

I have fine, flyaway hair too and my uncle, who is a hairdresser, recommended breathing on your palms a few times and rubbing them together very fast, then smoothing your palms over your hair. It works for me, no idea why though.

RedwingWinter I love your name

Thanks - never got on with hair spray (don't like the feel of it), but might look out for some hair oil or dry shampoo.

Is the weather making it worse? I have never had static hair but atm both me and dd look like we are walking under balloons.

purpleroses · 12/02/2012 19:52

Yes, I find it is always much worse in very cold weather. Presume it's the dramtic changes in temperature - I've been in and out of the house a lot lately and it's gone awful.

Dampen brush slightly, it's the very dry air on frosty days that causes the problem.

Thank you salamanda nice to meet a fellow bird geek :)

My hair is very static in cold weather (very fine, thin and flyaway). I find it helps if I spray my hairbrush with hairspray and then brush my hair.

littlebrownmouse · 13/02/2012 19:26

Mine is really static. I use frizz ease serum with heat protection. I put it on before blow drying when my hair is still wet and it's made a huge difference. I also need to use a good conditioner when I wash it. I also try not to wear anything made of fleece or acrylic anywhere near my head!

Magicmayhem · 14/02/2012 00:25

its caused by lack of moisture in your hair, do you condition your hair or use fabric conditioner on your clothes... do you get a lot of static electric shocks as well?? #justwondering Smile

monkeysmama · 14/02/2012 08:28

I've been getting lots of little shocks in the past two weeks and the fuzzy hair. Definitely weather related. Another reason I prefer summer!
