Melasma? Uneven skin tone.

Last summer when I went in the sun my skin came up in brown blotches. On my forhead, chin and upper lip.

After some googling I have diagnosed myself as having melasma. It is really depressing and I am about to go on holiday somewhere hot and am hoping people might have some great ideas about how to minimise it.

I will wear a hat all the time and get some 10000+ sunblock for my face.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks

I was prescribed azalaic acid which made mine totally disappear.

Thanks. Does it stay dissappeared in the sun? Mine is not too bad in the winter, but comes back as soon as the sun comes out.

Also, did you go to your gp to get it prescribed?

The clinique Even Better skin tone corrector lotion has worked well for my skin. Their city block factor 40 is also good and doesn't give me spots. It's dear, though - about £39 for the lotion and £25 for the sun block.

Elemis tri enzyme range or alpha H but I wouldn't use them around your holiday as it makes your skin alot more sensitive to the the sun. Ultrasun make the best sunscreen and it is photostable - whatever brand you get it is useless unless it is photostable. You also only have to apply it once a day (it lasts 8 hours so if you are going to be out all day I would do it again in the afternoon but it still beats reapplying every hour).

For masking it - you can't beat fake tan as it will mask it without the risk of it sweating off.

KwaziiHunt - I got it prescribed by a dermatologist. I haven't seen any sunshine since it disappeared so I suppose it could well come back. They also prescribed me some camouflage make up which I havn't actually needed as the azalaic acid did the trick quite quickly.
