school shoes for hot feet!

MissWooWoo · 10/02/2012 09:43

my dd has very hot (not so) little feet and her shoes are always damp inside at the end of the school day, so damp that there is a now a hole on the inner sole! and these are good shoes (Clarkes). She's worn through subsequent inner soles within a few days Shock. What's really bizarre is that her feet/shoes don't smell Confused

Can anyone recommend a good "breathable" shoe suitable for school? black/leather/velcro strap

thanks

Geox are good as they have leather breathable soles

definately get her geox - they basically have a mesh membrane in the sole that allows water to pass out of the shoe in the form of a vapour, but stops any liquid water molecules from passing up into the shoe (you'll see what I mean when you have them in pront of you but they have holes in the soles). They also use lovely soft leathers. The next best option are startrite, as they are leather lined. Don't be taken in to thinking clarks are great because there are lots of stores. I used to run a kids fitting dept and tried my damndest never to put kids in clarks from their first solid shoes right up until they were in their early teens - the shoes don't offer the right level of support and are more often than not fabric lined. Their prewalkers are great, as are their teen lines, but I wouldn't bother when it comes to school shoes for primary school.

I suffer with sweaty feet. You could try some kind of insole. I use these wool insole liners by SummerSole, I used to order them from the US but they now have UK stockists, see here: freshfoot.co.uk/work.aspx the wool ones are plain colours, but there are girly pattens ones too in microfibre. Cost is £6 a pair postage extra. The liners are thin and don't take up too much shoe space.
They last a while and are easily removable.
I sometimes use them to protect expensive shoes.

The problem with using an insole is that they alter the fit of the shoe. It may seem thin, but with kids shoes a 2mm thick full length insole makes a massive difference to the overall depth and width of the shoe. If you chose the insole route, please take your daughter back to the store to ensure the fit is ok with the insoles - they should be happy to check for free.

some good advice here thanks, looking at the Geox website there appears to be only one pair of shoes that would be suitable (black/leather/velcro strap) ... surely that can't be right?? I can get to a Geox store next week so I guess I'll find out!

Geox are an Italian brand and like most continental schools, there are no school uniforms, hence a lack of plain black shoes.

Well, it's 4 years since I ran the kids's shoe dept and they had 4 or 5 styles each for boys and girls-I could always find a pair to fit a child anyway, and most of them were velcro fastened. I would have thought they would have continued to expand but perhaps not?
