Hollister - sizing question

Sorry if this has been done before but I've got a 10 year old DD and she is desperate for some Hollister stuff for her birthday. She is v tall but a little on the chunky size (i'm hoping its a growing phase....). She fits 11-12 at Mini Boden so would she be a small or a medium?? I'm thinking of hoodie/polo shirts but I'm running out of time! Any suggestions v v welcome!!! Thanks v much!

I would go for a medium so at least they will last a bit longer.

scurryfunge · 09/02/2012 19:32

I would go bigger. My son buys stuff from there and they seem quite small sizes.

gettingalifenow · 09/02/2012 19:32

I can't help you on the oden comparison but hollies tear are tiny - my size 10 DD would wear a medium and my size 8 DD a small....

SilverLining · 09/02/2012 19:32

Thanks Dexter - thats what I was thinking and don't want them too tight on her! Theres some stuff on line in the sale which looks perfect (and more reasonable)!

I'm not sure dd is in 9-10 clothes and needs an extra small. The danger with too big is the arms are really long on their stuff so while you can get away with it being a bit too big on the body if it's too big the arms will be massive.

Thanks scurryfunge and gettinalifenow - its quite of what I thought so will def size up - thanks again!

Good point about the arms - think I'll risk a couple of bit and get her a voucher so we can brave the store when I have more time!

There is a size chart on the website with measurements. Apparently one can have an International bust!

SilverLining · 09/02/2012 19:40

An international bust??! Well I never! I think I've just got a good old UK rack!!!!!

My DD is just 10 and tall (about 5th in height out of 80 girls in her year based on seeing them all line up in height order for a school show), and in age 11/12 Boden too. She definitely only needs a xs from Hollister and even on this the arms are longer than ideal.

I've found items from Abercrombie kids to be a much better fit as obviously they are cut for children. I've managed to persuade DD that these are an acceptable alternative though she does prefer Hollister. This might be worth a try. DD is a medium so based on what you've said about your DD I'd get a large from there.

There is definitely a clearance section in Hollister. I didn't believe it til given detailed (literally step by step) instructions on exactly where it was in our nearest store. It's not obviously signed but recognisable as clearance by the fact that instead of a few garments tastefully draped on chunky wooden hangers there are dozens of identical garments crammed onto shelves. It's definitely worth hunting out this section for a 10 year old who probably won't that au fait with what was last season, especially as it seems to be stocked largely with the small sizes!

Sorry mystery fairy - only just seen this! Very helpful indeed - will get myself sorted (and hopefully DD!) she definitely won't be au fait with seasons....!!!!! Thankyou!!!
