Baby at funeral

Unsurprisingly baby does not have any black clothes.

No one will expect her to be in sombre colours will they?

I was thinking perhaps a white sleep suit.

Possibly over thinking this to avoid thinking of the rest of the day!

You are seriously over thinking this Smile - no one will mind what the baby wears, I expect people will enjoy seeing the baby at the funeral.

Sorry for your loss.

MrsDeeBee · 08/02/2012 12:21

You are overthinking, Teacup.

Please accept my condolences for your loss.

Put baby in whatever she will be most comfortable in. No-one will take any notice. Smile

RecursiveMoon · 08/02/2012 12:24

Sorry for your loss Teacup.

We took DS to my Granny's funeral when he was about 6 months old. He just wore a pair of cord dungarees and a white long-sleeved vest. Everyone made such a fuss of him (it was the first time that most people had met him), and him being there seemed to help everyone on such a sad day.

valiumredhead · 08/02/2012 12:24

I am sorry for your loss x

Put baby in whatever she is comfy in. I doubt half the adults there will be in black let alone anyone expecting a baby to be.

I like kids at funerals, they are a nice distraction and sort of signify hope iykwim :)

Over thinking.

It's perhaps not the occasion for strikingly jolly colours and designs, but anything in a quieter hue and fairly plain/traditional style is fine.

TeacupTempest · 08/02/2012 12:28

Thanks everyone

I was reassuring myself with the fact that her sling is black...madness!

Sorry for your loss. Recently took baby DC to a funeral where she was dressed very garishly. Resoundingly positive reaction.

valiumredhead · 08/02/2012 12:31

Thinking back to my great uncle's funeral, a child was there in a red velvet dress - she looked gorgeous. Please don't worry.

SaraBellumHertz · 08/02/2012 12:32

vallium I think that is why DC got such a good reaction. Everyone was so pleased to see the start of life.

abigboydidit · 08/02/2012 13:43

Absolutely. My niece insisted on wearing her glittery red party shoes to my Dad's funeral as she kept calling it Grandad's party. I think he'd have liked that Smile

Likesshinythings · 08/02/2012 13:50

I like your niece's style, abigboydidit!

I don't think babies or little children should be in black. They bring a bit of joy and life back, especially if there are a lot of older attenders. At her great grandmothers funeral, my daughter (aged 3) insisted on showing everyone the matching bloomers that went with her polka dot dress. No one made a disapproving face, everyone smiled.

4madboys · 08/02/2012 14:04

i took 9wk old ds2 to my grans funeral, i have NO idea what clothes he wore, probably just a babygrow! it didnt occur to me to think what he should wear. as it was it was the first time he was seen by lots of family and it was just nice to have a new life and a new member of the family there whilst we said goodbye to my grandma :)

imoanruby · 08/02/2012 14:33

Teacup so sorry for your loss.

I to dd1 to my nans funeral at 4 months and dressed her in a lovely bright dress, exactly what my nan would have wanted to see her in. It really didn't matter to anyone else and it was nice to have her there just as 4madboys said.

jujubean · 08/02/2012 15:40

I took my DD to a family funeral when she was 5 weeks old and my Grans when she was 6 months old. I agree with other posters, both the funeral's were for elderly people and everyone really enjoyed having the next generation there. I think it was a great distraction from the sadness of the event and signified 'new life'. I would just say make sure your baby is comfortable and then you will be comfortable too.

startail · 08/02/2012 15:56

Teacup condolences and don't worry.
Toddler DD1 went to Granny's funeral in a navy pinafore and drew all over the order of service (I've still got it, something beautiful about an innocent child colouring on something we find sad).
DD2 wore a burgundy party dress another funeral as a 4 month old, she just BF quietly at the back.

TeacupTempest · 08/02/2012 16:01

Thanks for all the kind words and reassurance.
