Boot cut jeans - can we have the final verdict please

I am ample of arse and thigh so they tend to be the style that suit me best. But I'm forever being told that they are a fashion no no.

Is this because saying they are frumpy is actually just another way of having a go at fat people (having a whole bag of chips on my shoulder) or do straight leg jeans genuinely look better on everyone?

if they suot you and you like them wear them!

cyb · 04/02/2012 22:46

THey look AWFUL if they are too short

they look awful if worn with a zip fleece

Ditto any kind of mumsy black block heeled ankle boot

But with the right top and Converse for example, there's nowt wrong

ShineYourButtonsWithBrasso · 04/02/2012 22:47

Just wear them if they suit you.

I don't think they are frumpy or "fat people" jeans.

I have skinngy days, boyfriend days and bootcut days. It depends on what I'm doing, what shoes I want to wear and what mood I am in.

And I'm a size 8 10 or 12 depending on time of the month and shops jeans were bought in

Yes, I am the converse kind of girl. Do NOT own any block heeled ankle boots.

They aren't too short but it does mean they always have scabby back hems Blush

Oh god, I have bootcut angst too....and a big arse and thick legs, so skinny jeans look hideous. I'm looking for some jeans at the moment...want slight bootcuts rather than anything too flaredy.

Selks · 04/02/2012 22:50

ditto your last post, Generous.

I am also of ample arse and thigh...i would only ever wear them with my converse.

I much prefer a straight leg or a slim leg, in a very dark denim...brought a nice pair this week from Next only £26.00 well worth a try - certainly much more flattering on me..

Haziedoll · 04/02/2012 22:50

I don't think that straight leg jeans do look better on everyone, if that was the case then boot legs would never have been in fashion in the first place.

I have swapped my boot legs for straight legs but I can't really tell the difference,

Ineedacleaneriamalazyslattern · 04/02/2012 22:53

I had bootcut angst today as well but ended up wearing them because I was far too uncomfortable in my skinny jeans with super cosy fleece lined tights underneath.
I ended up wearing them with trainery type things cause well I was going to a football match and it was bloody freezing I honestly didn't care but actually decided they didn't look that bad.

But in the dark blue...never light blue with my thighs!

I had jean angst last summer - I fell over when rollerskating in my beloved Lee Leola bootcuts, they had a massive rip in the knee, and I asked the MN Style and Beauty gang to help me find a replacement.

I listened to their (usually spectacularly good) advice about the fundamental un-chicness of bootcuts, wept in in TopShop as I tried on various skinnies, and eventually bought home a pair of Gap straight legs.

They are hideous and make me look like a muppet. A fat muppet.

I now have a new pair of Leolas and look gorgeous.

But I still love th S & B ladies as they found me a VG pair of shoes last week. Which look rocking with my bootcut jeans Grin

QueenCadbury · 05/02/2012 07:14

Generous, I could have written that post myself Smile

I love bootcuts as I often feel restricted in skinnies/straight leg spending half the day on the floor with dc3.

Bootcuts may not be high fashion but being stylish is not about slavishly following trends, it's about what suits you and what you feel confident in.

As someone else has said it's all in the colour and what you wear them with.

owlelf · 05/02/2012 07:21

I think they might be coming back into fashion. There are masses of them in the shops at the moment. Can anyone confirm that we can wear them with pride again?
