I am helping my mum look for an outfit for my brothers wedding in the summer but I am clueless when it comes to dressing me, let alone anyone else!

Right, she's 55, just under 5ft but not sure of her size but would guess at a 14.

I got married 5 years ago and she really liked her outfit but it was quite 'boxy' - a very floaty style top and skirt which, considering her height, didn't really do her any justice. She has since then quit smoking and hit the menopause so has put on a bit of weight and she isn't comfortable about it.

I would really like to help her find an outfit that she is comfortable in but that makes her look stunning.

Any ideas please?

Oh and we went to the shops today for a look at what she might like so I'll link to those to give you an idea:

Coast dress which has a plain cropped jacket to match, as she doesn't like her bingo wings!

Another coast dress

She really liked the look of this dress but I think it's not fitted enough for her.

She didn't try any on though, that's another battle!

Any suggestions of actual outfits, or just suitable shops, would be really helpful. Thanks

If you have a John Lewis near you book a personal stylist for her and see what they suggest

Just a tip a lot of milliners will make your hat to match your outfit - my mum has done this for our family weddings and it really topped te whole outfit off the have a headpiece (not necessarily hat) made individually to suit the outfit!
Make a few enquiries locally and after you ve gotten the outfit maybe consider it - especially if your mum s a little conscious about her body, it might help to boost her esteem a bit and top off the outfit knowing people s attention might be drawn to it.
(though of course sheets get an outfit she likes and feels comfortable and fabulous in!)
I did trawl the shops with my mum and also left her off the the devices of a personal shopper but she always faired much better in smaller boutiques that specialised in occasion (but not mumsy) wear where the assistants knew how to dress her body type and gave her plenty of attention
Good luck I m sure you ll get great advice here too
FWIW a jacket over dress option (google
Louise Kennedy style outfit ) can be beryl elegant and yet versatile once all the formalities are over and everyone s ready to hit the dance floor

Thank you for all the suggestions. Smile I'll have a look at them tonight.

Not sure if my mum would be keen on a personal shopper but I think she might be more likely to listen to ideas from a stranger than from me or my Dad!
