I used to get this, I used hydrocortisone very sparingly when it was very bad, obviously dont scratch or touch it.

I've heard it can be brought on by nail varnish, which I dont use any more just in case!

Coconut oil!

Two weeks ago my 14 yr old daughters eyes were an absolute mess with eczema. I used cortisone 1% very sparingly for two days and then read about Elizabeth Ardens 8 hour cream. Used that on day 3 and kept going with it. Her skin is completely clear now. There is screeds on the internet about the 8 hour cream being wonderful for eczema around the eyes.

I have this problem atm with my eyes, and it's never happened before. At first the pharmacist thought it was an allergic reaction, so gave me eye drops and antihistamines, however after them continuing to stay sore, itchy, red and swollen my doctor believes that it is in fact due to my body fighting off a virus of some sort.

I was wondering if any of you suffer with asthma? I have had asthma since i was a child, and now that i am almost 25 my asthma only usually rears its head a couple of times a year. However i went from that to needing it 7-10times a day and waking up in the middle of the night needing it.

My doctor believes both of these developments are related and a sign of my body under distress from an infection or virus. However with no real proof to go on he has given me the 0.5 hydrocortisone for my eyes to use sparingly and put me back on steroids for my asthma.

During the last 2 weeks of having the eye problem however i did find a cream that honestly works wonders and i have sensitive skin (though never had an issue with dermatitis). It's called Egyptian magic cream. It only has a handful of ingredients and i think thats what makes it so wonderfully soothing. The ingredients are simply: honey, beeswax, olive oil, bee pollen and royal jelly. It is a god send!!! And i am allergic to pollen, and had zero reaction to this. Obviously i would test it on an area of skin not on your face first, but honestly this balm is incredible!!!

I used it also on my face as a night cream twice a week and my face is baby soft. It won't clog your pores and while i used it on my eyes i swear it made my lashes longer too!

Anyway i wanted to share my experience with this problem as it is still unfortunately giving me trouble, and also give you the name of this cream. It is all natural so no worrying about harmful chemicals or anything like that. I hope it will help some of you too. Mine is clearing up now, i only needed the steroid cream as i ran out of the egyptian magic cream and rubbed my eyes in my sleep :S so flared them up.

Wishing you all speedy recoveries and episode free days to come from this painful condition!

Em xx

Eczema developed on my eyelids from the second I got pregnant. I used a prescription cream called Phenergan, once in the morning and at night before I went to bed. Although this stops the itching and reduces redness, it doesn't moisturise, so once I'd applied the cream and let it soak in, I then applied Sudocream to keep the skin moisturised. The eczema cleared up in a week. Every now and again, I repeat if it feels like the skin is getting at all dry or flaky, but it has gone.
Be careful not to get Phenergan in your eyes though, it stings like crazy!

Sympathies to anyone with eye eczema, it's agony. Mine flares up with stress. Drink plenty of water is my top eczema advice, and take a fish oil. Once the steroid cream has cleared it up, A Derma Epithiliale to maintain, it's incredibly good and cheap to boot.

Hi, I had some badly on my eyelids, I used Vaseline to soothe them. I went to see the doctor who told me that the reason you shouldn't use steroid creams around your eyes is that they thin the skin and unlike other parts of the body, the skin around the eyes is thin already so it could lead you to seeing small blood capillaries under your eyes - not a good look, very aging! I am glad he warned me.

Cuteypatootey · 20/06/2014 23:39

He was referring to creams with a high level of steroid concentration.

Ds had this when he was about 8, poor little love. GP recommended an oat based cream like Aveeno, which did help and it eventually went of its own accord. Having since discovered coconut oil I would definitely try that. It's pure and natural and has helped with other dry skin issues I have.

KarlWrenbury · 21/06/2014 07:35

agree with hydrocortisone

turns out it was nail varnish with me too - an elasticizer in there. I had it again this week. Eye all shrivelled up

cosmo1968 · 17/01/2016 10:09

Hydrocortisone cream u shouldn't really be used on yr child's sensitive pats of the body like face etc cause of steroid in it, best check with doc, what cream to use, could cause more harm than good

I developed eczema on my eyelids and couldn't find anything that really worked. I read the reviews on google about foderma serum and gave it a try. So glad I did. Saw positive results within 12hrs. Been using it for 2 and a half days and my eyelids are 80% back to normal! Give it a try. Hope this review helps someone else.

I get good results with cetraben. I recognise the early stages and put loads on overnight. It’s the only eczema I get so i’m pretty lucky.

Writersblock2 · 10/12/2017 10:02

I used to get this - absolute agony as every morning when I opened my eyes it opened up the scabs in the creases. The hydrocortisone was what worked for me too and I kept them moist with Vaseline. Did the trick. Now I just make sure I have a decent skin care regime and it keeps it away
