Are HANDBAGS and PRAMS compatible?

Are HANDBAGS and PRAMS compatible? I usually wear an ugly rucksack but I have been dreaming of something bright and leathery. But how do you CARRY a handbag while pushing a pram? And if you leave it under the pram won't it get nicked by a passing ruffian? And surely my scuddy rucksack is a less obvious target for being nicked when I leave it on the table at playgroup because I have to run across the other side of the building where my toddler has slammed herself into a wall during the tricycle race?

Please advise how you manage.

Radley across the body bags here on ebay work for me. Designer carrier bag for nappies, etc.

here are some samples

I had (still have) a large bag with a long strap that goes across my body ... think Archie the Inventor. I thought that I could get rid of it when dd ditched the pushchair a couple of years ago but then I found I still needed both my hands for hanging on to her and my shopping.

It's hardly the epitome of style and panache but it's practical!

hermykne · 21/01/2006 20:24

the ones we have are patterned and very orla kiley ish

ultra practical insde with very handy compartments, nappy changing mat included and tucks into its own slot, a space for dirty nappies! to be concealed til a bin found, wihs i had one when my 2 were babies!

I always buy handbags with handless that are long enough to put on my shoulder with the bag tucked under my arm

gingernut · 21/01/2006 20:25

Rucksac-style handbag (the largest I could find so it holds nappies, wipes, snacks, assorted toys etc as well as valuables). As an alternative I have a small handbag with a long adjustable strap which I wear across my body so I don't have the struggle to keep it on my shoulder while pushing the buggy. Then changing things go in a rucksac hung on the buggy handles. At toddler group I just chance it and leave valuables with our coats but at soft play places I take a bum bag with valuables so I can go round with them. If I don't I spend the whole time worrying about someone nicking my stuff!

Not sure mp. As I recall you have a small baby which makes life more difficult. When DD was small I used a small Adidas rucksack as a changing bag/handbag. Now she is 20 months and I have graduated through large handbags to medium sized handbags. As long as they will fit one nappy and some wipes I am OK. I rarely change her when we are out TBH.

Depending where we are I carry it on the handle of the pushchair(eg school run in our quiet village) or on my arm. However I am very slack and quite often leave it in the bottom of the pushchair in the playground while I go into school with DS.

Well, I've pushed prams and pushchairs all over the dodgier parts of SE London and never for one single second considered that it might be stolen from under the pram! I think it is every bit as likely - or unlikely - to be stolen from your shoulder. I also think the likelihood of your bag being stolen at a playgroup is absolutely minute.
I use either my pretty Orla Keily bag, a sweet velvet Anya Hindmarch bag or my new Storksac posh nappy bag which I got as a very superior freebie. Never given a second's thought to them being stolen.

Have you hear of Caboodle bags. I have one and they are great. They have a designer range (I have one of these) and they come with a co-ordinated change mat too.

Best bit is on each side of the bag are 2 extra straps designed to hang on each handle of the buggy (detachable).

Let me know what you think

as you can see the jade buttons one is sold out

Aloha, my purse was stolen out of my handbag at a playgroup when I was 8 months pregnant last year. It had my wedding ring in it because my finger was too fat too wear it. I was absolutely devastated. Apparently several purses were stolen at a few of the local groups about that time. Horrible.

Since then I use an across the body type bag, or put my keys in my purse and just hang on to it. Both my dss are independent enough now that they don't need much carrying so my hands are free-er than they used to be.

swedishmum · 24/01/2006 22:35

Can't believe anyone could be low enough to steal stuff from playgroups. What scum! I have bags with long handles and just use those. Never had a baby bag with 4 kids, but have managed to stuff everything required in a Prada shoulder bag at a squeeze. How much of that baby stuff is really necessary?
