Hi, my hair is naturally a mousey brown (boring), I recently dyed it dark brown. I would really like to lighten it up a bit to a dark blonde. How do I do this?

It's very difficult and expensive Sad .
I'm just in the process of doing it .
Firstly it will have to be done at a salon .
Secondly , even at a salon , lightening your hair will be a gradual thing .
The safest thing to do is have highlights gradually put in ,until it is as light as you want it.
I want to go back to being blonde and it's a pain ! I wish I had never gone dark !
Unfortunately you can't really bleach it back as it runs the risk of going orange .Eek .
I hope this helps .

Its not difficult, or expensive at all.Wink

You can remove the dye that you have been using with this, Its really easy too use, Just mix with water, maybe use two packs for long or thick hair, It wont damage your hair and doesn't smell vile like other colour removers. Add a low heat from a hairdryer, then rinse out. The box dyes that you use contain peroxide so that may have lightened your hair a little under the brown dye. It probably will be quite auburn if you are light brown anyway

You can lighten your hair after this by getting highlights or lightening at home with a bleaching kit.

If money is a bit tight, go to a college and have some highlights done, The student will be supervised by a qualified professional and you'll get a really nice new look at a fraction of what it costs at a salon.

Mm that stuff trashes your hair though .

I haven't used that particular one, but have used Colour B4 which looks like it does a similar thing. It didn't trash my hair, though it did make it feel a bit weird and squeaky until I next washed and conditioned it.

OP - if you've only dyed it once then a home colour remover such as Colour B4 or the one linked to below should be able to get most of the colour out.

Fantastic advice everyone (especially Viva!) I will definitely be buying the hair stripper when I'm bored of the brown x
