How do women find time to get pedicures/spray tans etc?

Just wondering. How do women fit it in (I mean a salon treatments rather than a home DIY effort).

Fitting in a haircut is bad enough. I've no desire to turn orange, but a proper pedicure would be nice! Do you do it in work hours or do you not work or do you dedicate a Saturday morning to it? I can't figure out how the average women (even without kids) could manage to fit this into their schedule, but maybe I'm missing a trick.

I get my hair done every eight weeks.

I look after my nails, feet, skin, eyebrows, pubic hair, eyelashes in fact my entire body all by myself. I hate the idea of fake tan.

I would rather spend my time and money on other things (hobbies) mainly because I don't enjoy strangers touching my body.

Often people who say they don't have time for things spend a few hours watching tv or fb mnetting a week, there is always time for something if you make it a priority in your life.

This thread has made me look into pedicures Grin

My local beauty joint are lovely and open evenings - they frequently do halfprice offers for their FB fans. I have only been there for sunbeds Blush but have always wanted a pedicure. It's not too expensive at full price £22 but I'll hang on a week or two for their halfprice deal.

Bright red toes and smooth feet here I come! What's not to love?! And of course I can fit it in, I think it's a rather joyless attitude that an hour of treat time is too much for some.

I work shifts so often manage to fit things in midweek.

Plus most salons offer one late evening anyway.

wordfactory · 02/02/2012 11:59

I don't go to spa type places for beauty treatemnets. I want them to be as efficient as possible. I do it for the pure asthetic nit the relaxation iyswim.

Also, I tell them as soon as I arrive. 'I have thrity minutes on the parking meter.'

I work fulltime. I get my hair done (with HL) every 6 weeks and a wax/pedi every 4. Both are done after work, on the way home. Time wise, it just means my DH has to be home in time for the kids. Money wise, it is an extravagance, but as the rest of the money I earn goes to the family coffers, I think I deserve it. Plus, it's about my only bit of me-time and I'm sure I'm a nicer Mum/DW because of it :)

I only ever once got a spray tan and that was one where they came to my house, which is perfect if you are time constrained.
I used to get manicures at the weekends, my time off for a few hours for myself once a month, but gave up because of the expense.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 02/02/2012 13:31

I work full time. Have found someone that will come to my house to do my Shellac fingers and toes so it's much less hassle. No spray tans though!

wonkylegs · 02/02/2012 13:37

No idea I'm out at work 52 hours a week, often bring work home, spend time with my DS & DH, have commitments with a charity & three committees, and then have to fit in general life stuff. My free time always seems to be at 10pm ish by that time I want to flake. I was at my bi-annual hair appointment the other day and hairdresser was showing me how to do something with my hair and all I could think was who the hell has the time for this stuff in real life! (I took holiday to get my hair cut)

startail · 02/02/2012 13:42

There are a million, billion things I'd rather spend the money on, boots, clothes, holidays, meals out a trillion nice things for the family that would come before beauty treatments of any kind.
The only thing I do is get my hair highlighted once or twice a year if there's a wedding or Xmas do. Yes it makes me feel good, but saving up for a trip to the states or a fancy smart phone feels better.

KWL51 · 02/02/2012 14:31

yes but i can facebook or watch tv with the children there. I do do my own manicures now and pedicures etc and the face packs etc. but nothing beats having them done for you.
Am actually willing xh to come back to the uk so I can have my free evenings to pamper myself with visits to the salon.

i agree it is hard enough fitting my hair cut in - it always ends up long overdue and i only have one baby to look after no job. i sometimes fit an eyebrow wax and tint in (well once since the birth! - plan on more of them) and i sneakily do this when hubby and i have a couple of hours together and we are shopping. we are sitting having coffee chilling out and i say - do you mind if i nip next door to get my eyebrows waxed, will only be ten mins! so he minds the baby while i get it done. not very relaxing mind you and can't do anything that would take any length of time.

PickledLily · 03/02/2012 06:55

I'm like you wonkylegs (but without the wonky legs Grin). I do get a regular colour/cut (feel obliged to look presentable for work) leaving work early, by 5pm, but end up tapping emails out on my laptop while the hair dresser is tackling my tresses. Hair just takes so bloody long to do, it feels like a really poor use of time! Shame my hairdressers don't do pedicures.

I'd would normally do my own toe nails, but can't reach my feet very easily as I'm pregnant. Which got me wondering how people fit it in!

Also live in flip flops so pedicures are essential Grin

Most of the last year has been spent sat around feeding a baby which can be done quite easily whilst having a pedi.

Usually I have stuff done during the day but occasionally I will pop out in a weekend just to escape the madness of a full house.

CloversMama · 03/02/2012 13:16

I'm in Dubai as well and agree with the whole simultaneous thing. Also, places are open late here and salons are everywhere I go to a place literally at the bottom of my building and in less than 2 hours, can have a bikini wax, eyebrow threading, mini facial, manicure and pedicure.
