La Brasiliana or Curl Interrupted? Straightening issues ...

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 31/01/2012 19:34

Has anybody used one of these products for a longer lasting straight effect?
What was your hair like before and after?
How long did it last and would you reccomend it?
Any particular product that you used afterwards that helped to keep it straight?

Anything else to add...?

20 questions!

Thanks!

Watching with interest - I enquired about straightening treatments last time I got my hair cut and they said they use the X-tenso treatment, which apparently can be a hot or cold treatment depending on hair type and how straight you want it to be. Has anyone used this?

VillaEphrussi · 31/01/2012 19:38

Apologies for three uses of 'treatment' in one sentence!

Oh crimes I didn't realise there was a massive choice ha ha whats the difference? Did you get it done? Mine is unruly but I had it done the other day in my normal hair dressers (who I last saw 4 years ago ha ha) and it was amazing, she just blow-dried it straight and it was so easy to manage - its waist length and curly as buggery usually so it was just so nice! Am tempted for something a tad more permenant but need experiences to decide! Come on wise s+b mnetters!

No, didn't get it done - they said come back and book a double appointment if you do want it done - they just checked for suitablility. Costs about £80 in my reasonably priced hairdressers. My hair's kind of big/wavy but in a bob, and I think maybe I want the option of curly every now and then, so not sure. They said it lasts 6 months or more. Hope someone will come on and tell us what it's like!

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 31/01/2012 20:24

That sounds good - mine is offering half price at the mo so it's £75 for any length (I hope)

I don't know whether or not to wait for something on groupon etc? I have no idea about this kind of thing ha h a

No, me neither. Actually it's the 'same price for any length' that put me off a bit, but would work in your favour! Mine only takes a couple of minutes to straighten with GHDs, so wouldn't make a massive difference to me perhaps, but with longer hair it surely would save a lot of time. But then I expect you wouldn't want to potentially spoil your lovely long hair, whereas I have less to lose if it wasn't good!

Come on somebody... what's it like?! Smile

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 31/01/2012 21:17

Ha ha I know! It takes about an hour to straighten mine but my GHDs broke just after Christmas (typical!) so I'm stuck

Ohhhh goodness Villa, I have just spoken to the salon, I am more confused than ever! Apparently neither the Brasilian nor the curl interrupted are straightening methods but instead just de-curl and de-frizz methods (erm...?) so he said that realistically I'd be looking for a chemical straighten, which is some japanese thing (Yuko?) and would cost me about £300! But that would leave it very straight and totally defrizzed but it's also permanent - to the point where you have to get your roots done every 6 months at a cost of £150!

I think i might just buzz cut it!

Aah, now I'm sure they called the X-tenso treatment a 'hair relaxing' treatment, not straightening, but they said that with my hair I probably wouldn't need to straighten it anymore, despite it being big waves/ curls. Hmm, it is very confusing. And it looks like nobody has taken the leap to do it around here! Yes, I'd heard of the Yuko method, which I think totally straightens and flattens your hair, but is much more expensive, like you found! Sounds like your hair is lovely anyway - no need for a buzz cut yet!
