How to get rid of my flabby post baby tum???

I had ds 17 months ago and I had a very big bump, he is a very tall little boy. It was quite a rough birth and I had some back problems, so I wasn't very diligent with exercising afterwards.
Problem is, I have now got a very bad spare tyre around my middle. I feel very self conscious about it, it actually sticks out further than my boobs!
What exercises could I do every day at home to try and reduce it? I am not very good at getting sweaty and I don't have the time for a long workout, but are there any exercises that I could do while ds watches Peppa Pig or something?!

Planking is great, hard work but pays off. Also using a small gym ball sat up feet slightly raised and passing it from side to side helps. I had to combine this with losing weight and swimming to get rid of my midriff. Hope it works

Swimming is great - obviously you can't do this at home, but if you can go even twice a week for half an hour, you should see a difference, because you are forced to use your stomach muscles non-stop.

30 day shred is great, it does make you swaety, but is relatively quick (less than 1/2 hour a day), so hopefully could be done while your DS is asleep, or occupied with something else. I have seen a huge change from 30 day shred.

Sorry but it won't go anywhere if you're not prepared to sweat!

I use Tracy Anderson's post pregnancy DVD for toning but the tyre itself is made of fat and needs burning off with diet and sweating.

If it is fat that you need to shift, then only cardio exercise will do this. It doesn't really matter what sort of cardio, you can't spot reduce fat (i.e. trying to target exercises to get rid of fat in a specific area is a waste of time). So any aerobic type of DVD would be ok (running, cycling, swimming etc all good, even walking with your DS, although appreciate that these are not at home). Weight loss, however, is (generally speaking) better achieved through diet than exercise (the ratio usually quoted is that you shoudl aim to lose 80% of weight through diet and 20% through exercise).

If part of the problem is slack / separated tummy muscles, then you do need to target these with specific exercises. I've just started the "Tupler Technique" ones (google / search on here for info) - haven't been doing it long enough to know if they will work though!

I lost all of the baby weight a while back, plus some extra. The rest of me looks normal, it's just my tummy that sticks out and looks abnormal. Therefore I guess I have slack tummy muscles?? If I pull my tummy in using the muscles it looks normal, but then I let go and bleurgh!

Was going to start a thread like this, i've just received the 30day shred in the post, and am planning to do some today!

I'm quite happy with my bottom half, without growing another 6" but thats impossible, the three stone i have accumulated has seemed to gathered around my middle and nowhere else!

catsareevil · 29/01/2012 14:42

30 day shred is brilliant for toning tummy muscles.

OP, this sounds like me - I weigh the same as pre-children, but my tummy... yuck! I can do the sucky in tummy thing too, but when it's just relaxed I look about 4 months pregnant. I know that mine is mainly due to separated muscles because I can feel a gap when I do a head lift (google "how to check for diastasis"), and am placing a lot of faith in the Tupler exercises (can definitely feel that I've worked the muscles afterwards). Although I think pregnancy has also changed how / where I store fat, and there's a little stubborn bit (above my c-section scar) that nothing will shift.
