Please help me get rid of the massive bags under my eyes

More sleep not an option (cheers dd). It's got to the stage where I never wear my contacts anymore because my glasses minimise the bags. So I need wonder eye cream or tips on concealing please! I have tried under eye concealer stuff but it doesn't really seem to work - maybe I'm just not doing it right.

Oh I know how you feel! I have 2.6 DD and 6 months old DS. Sleep is something which happens to other people.

There are a number of things to try. Lots of people recommend the Garnier roll on under eye thingy to help bags and dark circles.

I suffer mainly dark circles. A bit of touché éclat with some mineral makeup concealer really helps and looks natural too.

If things are really awful. Both Benefit and Bobby Brown do a sort of a pinky cream one you can apply either with a fancy brush or finger like I do. This is heavy duty and works really well and even disguises the effects of days of almost total sleep deprivation. I have heard it charmingly described as the stuff drag queens use to hide their stubble. So I wouldn't use it every day.

There are lots of cooling gels and roll ons etc for bags but am no expert hopefully someone knowledgable will be along shortly.

I use No7 eye cream and the Tesco own brand concealer. You have to let the eye cream sink in properly first so I do that when I first get up and then concealed after breakfast on the rare occasions I can be arsed .

Mind you this might just be luck as the concealer in "Fair" is a really uncannily accurate match to my skin tone.

Doctor on the radio the other day said it's not lack of sleep that causes the bags - it's not drinking enough water, too much caffeine & alcohol etc.

SantieMaggie · 29/01/2012 00:40

if its dark circles i've recently discovered the trick of using a corrector on them and then a concealer. basically you're neutralising the dark colour with a brightener and then the concealer matches to your skin colour. i got corrector and concealer from bobbi brown. touche eclait type things are brighteners and do the first thing but can draw more attention to that area than tone it down iyswim.

bags unfortunately are another issue - sleep, plenty of water and a good eye cream help but i'm yet to find a solution to get rid of them!

I second Bobbi Brown corrector. Mine is a sort of peachy colour and looks like it will be all wrong on my skin but it works! If you go to the counter they'll find the right shade for you.

Can 2nd a corrector. Mine are a blue grey kind of bag (nice!). So have a yellowy corrector. Touch eclat now have a yellow toned one as do lilly lo.

I find eye exercises help quite a bit with bags. There's a couple of crunchy squinty ones in the carol maggio facercise book. Old school but definitely effective.

LiegeAndLief · 29/01/2012 08:40

Hettie, that sounds just like mine - bags with a blue grey colour, yellow towards the top - lovely. Dd is 2.5 and a terrible sleeper so I have a massive build up of sleep deprivation! I do drink quite a lot of water and no caffeine - alcohol, however.... Grin

Sounds like I need a corrector. Good suggestion to go to the counter, I wouldn't have thought of that and am rubbish at choosing the right colour foundation etc. Never heard of eye exercises either, maybe I should look into them! Thanks everyone.

I suffer from bags, sometimes have bags on my bags, really attractive. My Dad has this too, so partly hereditary I think. Annoying because other than these I think my skin is pretty good and no wrinkles (yet).

I do think it is dehydration, as they are much worse if I have drunk a couple of glasses of wine the night before. I try not to drink much caffeine. (decaf tea and coffee and coke etc).

So more water is the way to go I guess, but I have to drink ALOT for it to make any difference. I also use an ice pack mask if I have time - read somewhere that make up artists use them on models that show up with puffy eyes before they apply their slap. Got mine from the Body Shop and it's very soothing on puffy swollen eyes. Have tried all creams, from cheap to pricy, makes no difference at all.

ameliagrey · 29/01/2012 08:54

If the skin has sagged then sadly no cream is going to help- you need the knife!

Seriously- eye creams can tighten a little- but only as long as you use them and the effect is minimal.

Dark circles are easily concealed but real bags might look worse if you use a light reflecting concealer on them.

ChiefPotterer · 29/01/2012 09:12

Isn't haemorrhoid cream supposed to temporarily shrink eyebags?. I have seen this loads on different beauty pages - can't comment on the efficacy/safety of this perhaps someone else could advise?.

Dollydowser · 29/01/2012 09:15

No alcohol and sugar works for me I'm afraid, along with drinking 2L of water.

MistyMountainHop · 29/01/2012 09:53

witch hazel gel

honestly

any depuffing eye cream first (i use the green garnier roll onm) then a dab of witch hazel gel
