Please find me a decent haircut

It looks like Jilly Cooper at the moment - it's thick and curly/wavy with a fringe, which has decided to part in the middle and go out in flicky wings. The rest of it just sits there sticking out in some places and curling under in others. It seems that no matter what picture I take into the hairdresser, I end up with exactly the same style every time - the over 40s haircut, where it curls under round the jaw, then has a flicky-up layer that's a bit longer. But I have now mutated into Jilly Cooper and it's not a good look.

lol sorry MrsSchadenfreude, i am just picturing how you see it.

i am not ver good with curly hair.

having googled, i think a longer fringe, and off to the side looks nice, if the rest of it is below chin.

how long is it ?

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/01/2012 17:30

It's the same length as Jilly Cooper's.

Sort of just about on the shoulder.

I would find a ne hairdresser. And I wouldnt take a picture in as the model/hair is never like your own so you;ll be disappointed.

Find a good salon and talk to them about what you want. A good stylist should be able to recommend something that will suit you and your hair type.

fwiw - I had my haircut for the first time in about a year recently, and after bursting into tears about my hair the moment I sat down, the stylist did a good job, and I can do it myself.

I find it helpful to take photos of styles I like to the hairdresser, but do take a mixture so that she/he is able to say 'that would suit you/your hair best'.

Since I've been doing so, I've always been happy with my haircuts.

What I usually do is type a description of the type of style I'm after, eg medium length, fringe, wavy hairstyle, into Google then look through to find a good selection that I like.

I'm always recommending this Grin but could you go for a <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=freja+beha+erichsen&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1366&bih=651&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnsol&tbnid=Xb8FIO3X8Y1FxM:&imgrefurl=www.designscene.net/search/label/Freja%2520Beha%2520Erichsen&docid=Zn7VAw4SmEskJM&imgurl=i188.photobucket.com/albums/z67/designscene/designscenealbum/DSNEW2/FrejaBehaErichsenForTheLastMagazine.jpg&w=500&h=676&ei=1uwiT4iVNc2q-Aa89cnJCA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=603&vpy=116&dur=1036&hovh=261&hovw=193&tx=130&ty=118&sig=117407880091122040046&page=1&tbnh=138&tbnw=99&start=0&ndsp=27&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Freja?

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/01/2012 19:02

Freja is perfect, but I think mine is a bit shorter, and possibly a bit too layered. I will see what she says tomorrow.

What products are you using to style? I find that when mine goes all fluffy, middle aged and Jilly-esque, things like styling wax help to transform it into something completely different with a sweep of the fingers.

Silocone based stuff is usually worth a go too - John Frieda or Moroccan Oil or something like that.

HouseOfBamboo · 27/01/2012 19:20

'silicone' ffs
