Hi. I had my hair dyed in December - a semi permanent - which turned out much darker than I wanted like a cherry black, but thankfully has faded out now to a chestnut mid-dark brown so more my natural colour. I also have some caramel highlights scattered around underneath but they only really peek through rather than stand out.

I want to try a home colour, but am fed up with always ending up with really dark hair when the look I am going for is more on the auburn side - but natural and copper toned rather than plum toned e.g.Cheryl cole. I wondered if anyone could advise how this colour might turn out on mid-dark brown hair please.

Is your hair darker than a 6 - ie the colour on the box? If your hair is darker than the packet colour then it will only have a subtle effect, ie add some tone/shine, it can't actually lift your natural colour. The colour you have chosen has mainly copper tones which should work fine. Good Luck!
(Always better to go to a professional though if possible for the best results, especially as you already have colour in your hair).

Thanks MrsL. So it won't make my hair the same colour as the box but would add copper tones to my existing darker? That sounds like what i am after, i just don't want to go any darker.

I would love to get it done professionally but we're moving house soon so am looking for money saving options.

Thanks again!

Yes, exactly. Although if your hair is darker you'd be better going for a shade that matches your own depth, for example a 545 instead of a 645. The one you've got will be ok, but the copper tones might not be as noticeable as you'd like.
A semi permanent colour like the one you've got won't lighten your hair, you need a permanent one to do that. It will help the condition though and make it nice and shiny. Smile

I had thie same problem and asked my hairdresser what dye to get for a nice auburn brown . My hair is naturally dark brown, bt a horrid cold brown.
She said to use a dye with beginning with 6/7 to get a lighter effect.
Can't remember which one I used but it did the trick.
