In a nutshell, do I use a little shampoo but plenty of conditioner?

What (not too expensive) brands are best? I think the Tresemme Naturals range are supposed to be good?

Thanks for your help Smile

That's basically what I do and what I use!
For styling I use boots pink curl cream mixed with umberto giannini flirty girls gel

Thanks brighthair! I've been on mn about 5 years and the curlygirl method has finally clicked with me! Grin

I started it in Oct last year after spending my life thinking I had thick, straight-but-very-frizzy hair that I spent every morning 'straightening'. I've now ditched the ghds and have lovely curly hair Smile

I do shampoo but only about twice a week and I use one from the Naked range in boots or if there's a lot of build up an Aussie one.

Tresemme Naturals is great as a conditioner, use lots and leave a bit in if you can.

My best recommendation though is Curl Junkie's Curls in a Bottle. It gets rid of the frizz straight away, something I suffered a lot with at first. I've also used Umberto Giannis Flirty Curls gel which is ok but leaves my hair too hard and crunchy which I don't like.

The CJ stuff gives great definition but doesn't set hard so you just get nice soft curls. It's a bit pricy but well worth it. I got it from the shop at the British Curlies website.

I'm fairly new to MN and have disastrous hair - what is this curlygirl technique?! Sounds like I could learn from it!

Somersaults, the basic theory is that silicones, which are used in most conditioners and styling products, stop frizz but weigh down your hair and pull out the curl.
Also, in order to wash them out, you need to use harsh detergents (sulphates).
Which strip the natural oils out of your hair, so to deal with the frizz you need to use silicones. And so on, in a vicious circle.
OP, the Tresemme conditioners are very popular but they are too watery and thin for my hair.
I use L'Oreal EverSleek shampoo and condition with Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner, which has three kinds of oil (avocado, shea and olive) and is great stuff.
I also try to deep-condition regularly, sometimes by faffing around with olive oil. I add loads of conditioner while it's dripping wet and then scrunch in lots of gel on top of that?you don't wash out the conditioner.
It's also important not to use towels to dry your hair (use microfibre cloths or wrap your head in an old T-shirt), to let it air-dry if possible and not to touch it while it's drying. It will be stiff when it dries but then you scrunch out the crunch.
Check www.naturallycurly.com for lots and lots of helpful info.

RollerCola which Aussie shampoo do you use?

JoyceDivision · 27/01/2012 19:57

Oooh, thanks for the extra tips, will draw up a new hampoo and conditioner loist to start this next week,

I've not got anny frizz, if anything, it's very fine and straight with a slight wave, but one day on hol I used a shampoo / bodywash all in one thingy and my hair was really wavy and looked nice!

I use the Aussie miracle moist shampoo. I try not to use it more than once a week as it does have some sulphates, on other days I use the Naked shampoo.

My hair doesn't seem to mind, and it gives it a 'good' clean once a week. Since I've stopped washing and straightening every day my hair has also started to grow a lot faster as well. I've noticed my roots need doing a lot more often which I don't mind because I want it to grow long Smile

It's definitely a lot softer and in better condition too.
