Oh, wise ladies... Please help me dress beautifully! I feel so dowdy :-(

I'm feeling so dowdy at the moment. I have such an awkward looking horrid frame and no idea how to dress it.

I'm 24 and 5ft 9 (HATE being so tall, makes me feel like a man) and a size 12 (sometimes 14 on the bottom in places like Topshop) with 36DD chest. I have mousey coloured hair and green eyes and quite pale skin.

I just have no idea what to wear. I so want to look classy and gorgeous and 'done' when I rock up to the nursery with my ds... instead I look cobbled together and boring. Can anyone please help?

This is such a lovely thread...peanut you must tell us how you get on

Thank you so much for all the advice!
I certainly will look again at colouring, thinking maybe a darker honey colour would add some colour to my cheeks, at least some highlights.

I'm on a bit of a mission to drop a few pounds at the minute as well, so I'm sure once that's gone I'll feel a million times better.

Lovely comments about my height; I always feel like I shouldn't wear heels, I always get those 'god you're tall/massive!' comments (not meant nastily) but I always feel rubbish after that.

I'm 5ft and get the 'oooh you're so petite' comments - as though I'd never noticed my height Wink

Just think you have model height where as I have munchkin height.

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 26/01/2012 19:19

I know I feel like 'petite' comments mean you're all dainty and lovely... It's not polite though. Why do people feel the need to comment on my height? It's almost like its an acceptable conversation starter; 'God, you're massive compared to me aren't you?' to which the reply is 'Yes, I suppose I am'. It knocks my confidence though Sad

I think as with many things its just people making conversation. Beats what one woman said to me about 5 months after I had dc2 which was 'ooh you are going grey aren't you and you still need to sort your tummy out'

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 26/01/2012 19:29

No!!!! Shock Shock
I wish I was better prepped to come back with a witty remark in those situations, but that's another thread!

I still don't think it's appropriate to comment on other people's bodies other than to pay a complement. I would NEVER tell a friend she was short. It makes me feel a freak when people draw attention to my height and start a conversation about it.

mrscampbell I think I'm about as far from a denim specialist as its possible to get in the uk! Where else could I find one?

Well you can send a photo on the Donna Ida website and they'll advise which are the best jeans for you. Or go into topshop and gap and try a million pairs on.

Or big dept stores tend to have a fairly good range nowadays too.
