What would be the perfect diet that would ensure you were really healthy? I'm talking about glowing skin, strong nails, lots of energy. What would you need to eat?
Its easy to see what eating the wrong things does to your body, so there must be somefoods that really make a difference - are there?

yes:
fresh juice every morning (by that I mean a mix of 7 pieces of fruit and veg, and not out of a carton); this morning I did beetroot, apple, orange, kiwi, celery, carrots and pineapple
oats for breakfast (porridge or muesli or smoothie)
yoghurt
avocado
garlic
greens (I juice them as I dont always eat enough of them)
seeds/nuts (not too much as they are fattening)
and generally a balanced diet with lots of water, no sugar and lots of sleep!

If you are eating the above then you do not need any multivitamins, the only supplements worth taking are fish and plant fatty acids (both), eg starflower and a fish supplement (from Highernature.co.uk) as it's hard to get a decent amount from food alone (unless you're eating mackerel every day!)

Eat as many superfoods as you can - you can find a list on the internet.

I add a spoon of dried wheatgrass (from Amazon) to orange juice for a boost. I also eat as much salmon, blueberries (any berries actually) and pomegranate seeds as I can afford. Also I get my protein from eggs - probably eat about 8-10 a week.

Salmon is amazing for skin.

Protein in the form of lean turkey is excellent for you.

Lentils and also grains such as quinoa and Buckwheat too.

MissFoodie - whenever I drink fresh fruit juice with that amount of fruit I get headaches due to the high sugar concentration!

QuinnFabray · 24/01/2012 19:40

And processed sugar may as well be poison. So avoid.

QuinnFabray · 24/01/2012 19:42

Yeah, I prefer to juice vegetables mainly. Celery, carrot, cucumber and spinach with one apple to sweeten, is my favourite.

Needabitofsunshine · 25/01/2012 11:41

Eat clean. Avoid all processed foods, go heavy on the lean protein, leafy green veg, berries, nuts & seeds. Drink lots of water. No sugar, limit grains. Even if you can do this most of the time, you´ll still see a difference. You´ll look (and more importantly, feel) amazing!

MissFoodie · 25/01/2012 12:18

exactly what I said!

It doesn't seem to have done Gillian McKeith's looks any good. [bwink].

Kidding!.....

pahahahahahahahah

Sardines!
My ex mil ate them most days and looked like Miss Ellie from Dallas - really plump, soft and unlined skin (in a grandma kind of way)

GeorgeEliot · 25/01/2012 19:21

Only eat foods derived from plants.

So - no meat, fish or dairy.

Works for me. I look about 10 years younger than my real age.

MissFoodie · 25/01/2012 19:43

so you're vegan?

herecomesthsun · 25/01/2012 19:44

Hmm. I am pregnant so can't eat liver, shellfish, pates, cream cheese, swordfish, marlin, unpasteurised cheese etc. No alcohol either. I have gestational diabetes so can't eat much sugar or very much in the way of carbs. I have been keeping fairly well to this.

To be honest, last time I was pregnant with diet controlled diabetes, I had some difficulty taking in enough calories to put on weight in the last trimester because my diet was so restricted.

However, I was reading Jane Plant's book today which said that to reduce my risk of breast cancer I should cut out all dairy and eat lots of soya. There was also the suggestion that meat from older animals or male animals should be avoided. She eschewed brazil nuts because of radioactivity (!)

I think it is a very individual thing and depends on what works for you. (Planning to try and eat eat more fish/ lean meat/ vegetables when the baby is born.)

Everything in moderation, there is no magic secret. You only live once, enjoy it but don't overindulge.
