Anyone else stumped about where to buy your children's clothes now that Boden have declined in quality

....while their prices have shot up! I'm really frustrated about it. Their leggings are absolute shite now - years ago they were brilliant.

It's very annoying because my youngest is too wide for Gap stuff and I find other shops like M&S and Next are a bit hit and miss. The Boden tops used to wash and wash and could easily be used for 2 or even 3 children. Now after a few months of washes they are reduced to tat. Such a shame.

Where do you shop instead?

I like H&M mostly with occasional bits from M&S

I have bought from La Redoute in the past and was very pleased with the clothes and the colours/styles, but they really target you with advertising.

When DH goes back to Switzerland on work trips I occasionally get him to get things from www.orchestra.fr/ but it can come up small.

Also I like DPAM

beachyhead · 24/01/2012 12:24

I like Zara and fat face for my 11 yo boy, less logos or trendy stuff, and seems to bear up ok....

EdithWeston · 24/01/2012 12:28

Another vote for Lands End.

Also John Lewis and ASDA.

I have just discovered that Zara now sell clothes online and have bought a load of tops for my dds in the sale - they are all only £2.99 each :)

I have girls and used to get a lot from Gap but it's awful now. Laura Ashley I find too pretty. Next - just awful. M&S - tending towards too sweet.

I like POP but nowhere near me sells it so it's few and far between. I have the odd No Added Sugar bit - fantastic quality. I buy a lot of Boden still actually - everything we've had has been good so far and I get a lot of older stuff on Ebay. Zara basic cardigans are fantastic - we have three that just wash and wash. The plainer Monsoon stuff can be good too. Also Frugi (sale only!)

Bunbaker · 24/01/2012 18:44

"YuleingFanjo I was beginning to think I was The only nm who buys from Asda"

Me as well! Waves hand in air.

I only have one DD so I don't need to buy clothes to last for several children, but anything I have bought from Asda has lasted well. As DD is skinny and Asda tend to sell clothes for the more chunky child I don't tend to buy DD's clothes there any more.

belgo · 24/01/2012 18:46

I always buy children's clothes from Sainsbury's when I am in the UK. Occasionally something from Next.

fluffywhitekittens · 24/01/2012 20:50

Asda generally fits my dd well ;)
And lasts as well as most Debenhams and Marks stuff

snowmummy · 24/01/2012 21:08

Elias and Grace £30 for a hoodie in the sale! Oh yeah I'll have 3 please. Seriously?

PattiMayor · 24/01/2012 21:39

Northern - POP now sell online :)

rowingboat · 24/01/2012 21:46

I really like Frugi clothes, they wash so well and I have just passed on a top to a friend which looks practically new, despite being worn every week by ds for a good three years.
The sizing is quite generous and he was still in a 4-5 top when he was almost 7, although he is quite dinky.
Oh and Fatface seems to last well.

JoantheFennel · 24/01/2012 21:46

Fat face, sainsburys and john Lewis

JoantheFennel · 24/01/2012 21:46

And la redoute

yousankmybattleship · 24/01/2012 21:51

Lands End. Great quality and lovely designs that are cool enough for children but also quite tasteful.

messydrawers · 24/01/2012 21:55

DPAM are brilliant! Their clothes are lovely, reasonably priced (very good sales) and last forever- we have clothes that have done 3 girls and still look good. Lovely boiled wool coats. Their website is not brilliant unfortunately, but if you're ever in France their shops are very nice.

KristinaM · 24/01/2012 22:10

Another vote for lands end clothes for boys

Girls styles a bit twee if your DD is over 8ish. Ok for younger girls IMO. Outdoor wear etc very good

ReshapeWhileDamp · 24/01/2012 22:27

I have problems with Frugi (the cut-for-cloth nappies lot, right?) for toddlers - lovely thick cotton t-shirts and vests, but they stain horribly for some reason. Maybe the organic cotton isn't treated with stain-repelling agents or something? Anyway, DS1 trashed several tops and vests that DS2 is wearing anyway, but it doesn't look great.

Gap is still our favourite high street place to go for trousers and socks and long-sleeved t-shirts. They wash and wear well, and DS2 is in most of DS1's cast-offs - lovely to see them come out again!

I thought DPAM had gone bust? They were/are brilliant for vests and babygros in interesting, gender-neutral patterns and colours.

At the moment, most new stuff is coming from Sainsboro, and it's ok, but I find that the trousers are massively long for age and also fall off DS1 unless he wears a belt (Gap ones are fine on him). And the bargainous long-sleeved tops often have a 'puffy' thing going on at the shoulder that looks silly.

Frugi
Little White Company
Green Baby
Polan o pyret
Toby Tiger
John Lewis

all have nice things

brighthair · 24/01/2012 23:52

Don't know if anyone has posted this but this website often has good Joules discounted stuff on and there's a girls and boys section ;-)

perceptionreality · 25/01/2012 00:02

Does Joule stuff come up bigger or smaller in the tops? Anyone know?

OP posts:
brighthair · 25/01/2012 00:04

Can't comment on children's but all the adult stuff I have has been spot on

perceptionreality · 25/01/2012 00:25

Thanks brighthair.

This has been a great thread as it has given me some ideas, thanks all.

BleatingRose · 25/01/2012 00:46

Joule comes up v small in children's I find! My DD is a slim 5yo, and wears 7 or 8.

AlpinePony · 25/01/2012 05:26

perception I think Joules kids comes up quite small - my son is a tiddler but he grows out of Joules at bang on what the label says even though he's normally in stuff for younger children. Fantastic quality though. Just wish they had more on their website.
