I have slipped into such bad habbits with my clothes. All I seem to wear is jeans and t-shirts or leggins and long tops. My wardrobe is mostly made up of black and other dark colours and Im sick of looking like a frump!!! I have piled 4 stone on over the past few years but Im slowly beginning to shift this so as I lose weight I want to improve my wardrobe.
I cant afford to spend a lot so was thinking of buying one or two things a month to start the ball rolling. I am the youngest mum in my ds's class and by far the worst most frumpy dressed. I dont know where to start with making improvments. I just want to look nice.

Hi, I know exactly how you feel. After having my 2 babies my body shape has changed a lot and I just didn't know what suited me so I stuck to jeans and jumpers. I'm now starting to buy myself some nicer things to wear that I'll actually feel good in.

Sorry I can't do links but I've recently ordered a few things from asos, a skater style dress and a playsuit (I know a lot of people don't like playsuits but it's really nice and was only £12) you should also try dorothy perkins as they have some nice day dresses and blouses that are pretty cheap too.

Thats how I feel.

I dont really have an identity anymore and I need to find it. Will go take a peep on asos. Have bought some nice things from there in the past. The budgets a bit tight atm but im sure I can seek out some bargains. Just not sure what I will look good in atm. Im a bit of a heffer atm! Had a great figure before I had kids I just didnt realise it! What a bummer!

I need to befriend gok! Grin

What size, shape and colouring are you? It might be worth having a look at the princessing thread - I think it's all women doing things to make themselves feel happier/better dressed.

It might be a good idea for you to really think about how you want your wardrobe to work for you, rather than buying the odd thing. If your budgets tight, then you are going to need your clothes to work together as much as possible.

There has been lots of talk here about about choosing outfits for 'events' rather than just buying things. So think about where you go and what you want to be wearing. This can be as simple as:

School run
Coffee with friends
Park with DC's
Drink/dinner with DH

think about what you would like to be wearing and try to list an outfit for each. You'll be surprised that many outfits lap over i.e jeans, blazer etc.

Also, when you are in a bit of a rut I think its good to get inspiration from real life people. Keep and eye out when you are out, what women make you think they look well dressed? What is it they are wearing?

In terms of shops on a budget, but that are fashionable, I'd look at:

Zara, New Look, Gap (Good for basic t-shirts, vests) Uniqlo. Often M+S have some very reasonable priced things in their "indigo" range.
