bare escentuals or Lily Lilo? Orjon Hair treatment or Aussie 3 Min Miracle?

Hi

would really appreciate your thoughts on where to splurge and where to save...

so I am 6 months pregnant and looking for a bit of a boost, as I know hair and face-wise things are likely to go more down hill over the next few months

Make-up - I suffer from rosacea - triggered by preganancy and last time it got much worse during breastfeeding/through lack of sleep. I have used Lily Lilo in the past and got on fine with it - however, have noticed that a quite a few mumsnetters really like bare escentuals and have even said it helped their rosacea. Just ran out of foundation, so very tempted to try bare escentuals but it is twice the price and it will be a bit of a hassle to make it to a stockists to fine out the right shade etc ( bit knacked at mo!!!). So has anyone tried both - is it worth it?

Hair - have been dying my hair for over 15 years (joy of grey hair!) and have fine but frizzy hair. Have tried the brazillian keratin treatment ( thanks you other mumnetters) which was great (but expensive and you can't do it while pregnant) and love the Big Hair thingy but my hair is in serious need of some TLC - so Orjon Hair Treatment (seem some positive reviews) or Aussie 3 min miracle?

So red faced and frizzy I will sit here and hope you can point me and my purse in the right direction :)

can't comment on hair products, but I too have used LL for a few years now, and decided to try some BE for a change. Not for me Sad. it seemed to accentuate every pore and line and was v shiny/reflective (and not in a good way).

I don't have rosacea, but Bare Minerals contains Bismuth Oxychloride, a 'filler' mineral which can irritate skin. (LL doesn't) I googled it and found lots of articles like this one rosacea-support.org/community/viewtopic.php?t=127. if you already have sensitive/rosacea prone skin I would err on the side of caution TBH. if you really want to try BE, you could order on QVC as they have 30 day money back guarantee, so if it does not agree with you, you can always get your money back?

I'll start with my caveat - I am by no means at all a make-up expert! It's only very recently I've bothered with any at all.

I don't have rocacea but do have sensitive skin. I tried Lily Lolo and found it okay, and then went to Bare Minerals counter in Selfridges and tried that. I much prefer Bare Minerals - it gives better coverage and just generally looks much better on me.

neuroticmumof3 · 22/01/2012 19:42

I used BE for years but recently converted to LL as I think it gives better coverage, also because of the bismuth which I felt might be aggravating my acne.

Thanks moomincow for looking into it for me - hadn't though of looking into the ingrediants :) ( you would think I would learn as I do end up giving away quite a few purchases away after reacting to them). Have you ever tried using a primer? I haven't but I noticed on another mumnet conversation, a tinted one was being recommended under foundation as a way to hide the "red" of rosacea and they mentioned it also helped with smothing out pores ( am finding mumsnet fab

pootlebug - ohh - you have got me tempted to find out which camp I would be in....I often react quite quickly so maybe I can try and get to a counter and ask them to apply some. THe QVC route sounds good - less of an expensive gamble

nah, don't bother with a primer (apart from an Urban Decay one for eyeshadow). they are just full of sillicone aren't they to give that feeling of 'slip' and smoothness? tried once and just made me feel sweaty and like my skin couldn't breathe! I apply moisturiser (Liz Earle), leave for 5 minutes or so, then either wipe/blot over face with tissue or towel so face doesn't feel tacky, apply concealer then buff LL foundation on. bit of finishing powder on T-Zone and stays put all dayWink. don't LL sell a green toned concealer/corrector for redness also?

oh, and QVC sell Ojon stuff too, so you could try it out also (yes, spend far too many hours watching their beauty slotsBlush)

KateSpade · 22/01/2012 20:05

Ojon by far. Its amazing, expensive, but amazing!

HazleNutt · 22/01/2012 20:08

I tried BE and hated it, way too thick and instead of improving, made my skin like horrible, bringing out every pore. Quite like LL though. Can't comment on rosacea.

Aussie or Ojon - Ojon. You also need their Restorative shampoo and conditioner, fab. I also really like Kerastase Nutritive series.

HazleNutt · 22/01/2012 20:09

BE is supposed to be Bare Minerals

2ndtimeroundandfeelingclueless · 22/01/2012 20:14

moomincow - yes LL do sell a green corrector - am currently eyeing it up - have decided as I approach 40, I am finally going to sort my makeup out - bit of a shock to the system as I though using foundation was a big step and am now discovering all the different combinations :)

Katespade - like the idea of amazing - could do with a bit of that! which one do you use? seems to be two - Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment (£32) and Volume Advance Intensive 2 Minute Hair Mask (£28)

Off to find out more about QVC

Hazienutt - thank you - have just been looking on QVC (great tip!) and they have a discovery set - includes the the damage reverse shampoo and conditioner and the restorative hair treatment for £13.60. Is this the one you use? www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.200736/walk.yah.AACO~U035~UKAK
