fake tan for bridesmaid(matron)

I'm going to be a bridesmaid oldest bridesmatron in town in Greece this summer. We are being given beautiful silver grey silk dresses. All the other bridesmaids have glowing olive skin but I am so pale that I am at risk of looking like a defrosting cod portion. I have never used fake tan but am going to experiment with it to look less pale, my ideal would be a lightly bronzed goldish colour to cover up imperfections. I have my eye on Fake Bake in Fair.

Which fake tan would you suggest using? My biggest issue is finding a fake tan which won't leak colour onto the pale grey dress as that is really worrying me. Which fake tan is least likely to transfer to the silk dress? It is most likely going to be boiling hot and have been advised not to even consider the nude tights option (which I am not keen on anyway, but would have been more confident in).

Why not go for a spray tan before? Then hopefully less chance of going streaky etc

Tantrum spray tans are very good. I am quite pale and hate the orangy look some tans give, but you can dictate the depth of tan by how long you keep it on. So far I'
I've never had any steaking either.

I would have a spray tan the day before the wedding, then scrub yourself thoroughly all over afterwards to make sure every scrap of the 'guide colour' (the vegetable dye in the spray tan solution that makes you go immediately brown, so the spray tanner can see where it's been applied) is washed off. The actual tan itself shouldn't come off, but there is a risk if you get very hot and sweaty that it might - it was boiling on my wedding day and I did get a little bit on the inside of my dress (not visible from the outside at all though, so not a problem).

Have you tried nude fishnets/nude micronets? Wolford Twenties are the best ones. They won't make you hot like normal tights. My sister used to live in Italy and all the women there wore them in the summer to stay cool!

Fake bake everytime for me, but see if there is a salon near where the wedding is and have it done professionally. What ever you do don't do what my SIL did and have 2 in the space of 2 days before the wedding and not wash the guide colour off the second time. I look like I have an oompa loompa as a bridesmaid.

I'm going to look into spray tans - probably best to do it just before we fly out. The wedding itself is on an island and not sure what's available. Then I'll make sure to scrub myself thoroughly to make sure there's no guide colour. I expect that's what I've seen on people's clothes when they were walking round in white summer dresses (edged with orange!).
I've never tried nude micronets, but they look lovely so will get some to experiment with. I don't mind getting fake tan on the inside of the dress but just worry about getting some on the edges.
Will look at who does the tantrum spray tans lilybloom.
Wise words GlaikitFizzog, I'm short enough to look like an oompa loompa if not careful. Spare a thought for me: one of the other bridesmaids used to be an underwear model.
I've decided I'll have a go with fake bake fair myself this week, I am curious to see what I look like with a tan, having never had one.

Get some sally hansen leg make up in a spray can, it wont rub off. I'm pale and fake tan never takes as well on my legs as everywhere else.

Newtothisstuff · 22/01/2012 19:24

Go professional for defo if your not used to it.. I had a clarins one done for my wedding it looked fantastic

sillymillyb · 22/01/2012 19:53

I was just about to suggest clarins in a salon too. It's a great colour (im pale too) and the actual application process is quite relaxing too

If i do my own at home I'm a fake bake addict though, used to use at tropez but in my opinion, it doesn't go on as well and fake bake smells better.

monkeysmama · 23/01/2012 09:23

Don't go in the pool after you've had it done before wedding though or it may streak!

One word of warning - Pippa.
Enough said...

pluckingupcourage · 23/01/2012 23:53

the tan was actually suggested by the bride (!). I agree that silver grey and whiteness would go though.
Coffeeinbed, good point about Pippa, I would be going for a glow rather than getting tangoed.
I've got myself some fake bake in fair, so I am going to see what I look like with a bit of a tan for the first time. I've been doing some stealth princessing and exfoliating and moisturising regularly so the fake tan shouldn't be too much of a faff.
Monkeysmama, didn't know about the risks of chlorine!!
Am also going to look into clarins salons and the sally hansen stuff ... though I may rebel and decide to go pale to the wedding (I have very pale blonde hair and grey eyes, so pale looks normal on me).

Yes, I think you should go with your natural coloured skin.
