Well think its about time that I starting buying clothes that make me look fab not shite. Been looking into it and colour me beautiful is half a day wheras my house of colour is 90 mins. Which in your expert opinion is best? How do they differ?

yeah - what are you forward?!

are you gonna have your style done too?

ForwardOcho · 24/01/2012 11:28

I'm a spring. I'm disappointed really. Particularly when my style icons are Chrissie Hynde and Patti Smith. What I love is washboard winter. What I am is hourglass spring. Sad My daughter came with me and she is a winter - I am jealous. Still, it means that some of my more expensive and timeless black pieces won't waste. I am worried that I will start dressing like a mother of the bride. I mean, what the heck does one wear on one's feet?
Is the style day worth it?

Ok NYE I got it - thanks. I have no inner Barbara Cartland. I will really be brutal with my wardrobe and pack give away a lot of the black stuff which I never actually wear anyway. Then, after I have stopped crying, I'll book a style day.

Pseudonymity · 24/01/2012 12:20

I've heard about the idea that your colours will be in the shops in the season that you are. I am a deep winter (self-diagnosed but almost without doubt). Also a colour consultant came to our house when I was younger to do my sister and she said as much. Could this be why I find buying summer clothes so difficult? Tend to wear a lot of black in summer. Can deep winter people ever wear pastels? I love all those ice cream colours [sulks]. Style day sounds interesting.

Gillybobs · 24/01/2012 12:28

Forward I can soooooooo identify with you. I was draped as a Spring in September and spent the first weeks panicking that Id need to dress like a CBEEBIES presenter : (

I just make the most of the neutrals in my palette, the navy and mid grey are great for skinny jeans/trousers and I have a fair few lace tops in cream and navy and I like breton tops too. Ive also skinny blazers in navy and grey. I do look better when I add one of the brights but I do this with a scarf/necklace or a little top under the blazers. (Also just wearing the recommended bright lippy makes a difference)

For shoes, at the moment Im getting a lot of wear out of mid grey slouchy ankle boots and tan lace up ankle boots.

You can still do edgy when you are Spring, promise!

ForwardOcho · 24/01/2012 12:28

Looking at my daughter's list - she is a winter - there are ice colours in it - very cool, icy pastels which she hated. But also a lot of rich raspberry pink and magenta, which would also be an alternative to black for the summer.

Gillybobs thank you - yes, navy navy navy, grey grey grey. You have also just persuaded me to buy the HoC lippy, as at least I know that it's the right colour. Have just bought Aldo's fake Isabel Marant hidden heel high tops in camel/tan. Feeling a little better.

NYE that's a good idea - my consultant wasn't very floggy with the make up and stuff. Its was nice not to feel pressured on the day. Thing is - you look so dreadful with no make up on, dressed as a nun with fabric tight to your jowly neck, that when she pops a bit of lippy on you you're prepared to believe that she is the true messiah.

Gillybobs · 24/01/2012 14:13

Forward you are making me smile : )

I do have a HoC lippy but as NYE says they are pretty intense I keep mine for evening. Ive had loads of success finding Spring lippy - Mac do loads (I have Vegas Volt) , Clinique Dubonnet is a great, wearable coral red, and Kate Moss for Max Factor number 12 is a brilliant bright coral red

Am sending you a PM Forward

teejwood · 24/01/2012 14:44

forward thanks for making me smile - i too was aghast at having to be seen in public without makeup Shock and it was a blessed relief to get some slap back on. If it's any consolation I am an in-denial newly diagnosed Light Summer

CakeandRoses · 25/01/2012 08:54

forward there is life after a spring diagnosis. in time, you'll come to realise spring is in fact the best season of all :)

if you're a paintbox spring then hang on to your black and charcoal as you might be able to wear it still (altho it's unlikely to be one of your best colours) - i ditched all of mine and found that out afterwards. gillybob's kept some of hers i think.

Pseudonymity well worth being draped anyway as you'll find out your super-duper best colours (perfect hangover disguises) and the range of colours that will look good on you

ForwardOcho · 25/01/2012 10:26

Thanks cakes - I've seen the term paintbox spring a few times but my consultant didn't mention it. What it is? How will I find out?

CakeandRoses · 25/01/2012 10:34

forward did your cons mention you were any type of spring or just spring?

paintboxes tend to be a bit bright winteresque-looking - eg Gillybobs & I both have dark hair, pale skin and light bright eyes altho i know another who has brown eyes but that's unusual.

i've sent you the thingie that gillybobs asked me to btw.

CakeandRoses · 25/01/2012 10:36

paintbox is bright or clear spring in other systems btw, eg www.truth-is-beauty.com/understanding-your-bright-spring-look.html

wallpaperjo · 25/01/2012 11:51

you can get your colours done for free at dressipi.com - you have to sign up, it does take a few minutes but its worth a stab for free. better still they have a free makeover competition running at the moment dressipi.com/competitions/new-year-new-you

CakeandRoses · 25/01/2012 12:42

those freebies and online jobbies just aren't accurate ime wallpaperjo. you need to see the effect of the drapes against actual skin to be sure.

some of those online ones have me as an autumn - probably based on my dark reddy brown hair - whereas i'm a spring.

ForwardOcho · 25/01/2012 13:05

Cheers cakes done that.
No, she just said spring.

BUT, she says hopefully, my 2* colours are quite strong though - Dove Grey, Bright Navy, Geranium, Leaf Green, Violet, Bright Blue?????
I'll second the impact of the drapes against your skin though.
Just bought Kate Moss no 12 lippy

Gillybobs · 25/01/2012 13:30

Forward those ** colours are v similar to mine...hmmm

What do you think of the Kate Moss lippy on?

And agree that online diagnosis is hugely unreliable compared to the real deal. I was also diagnosed online as autumn (due to warm brown hair) but am paintbox Spring
