Best post-styling product for thick, coarse hair?

I have very thick coarse hair which I tame into submission with a BBH.

Because it is so thick, it doesn't hold the style for as long as I'd like.

Just wondered what others find really good to apply to hair post styling to hold it and make it nice and sleek. I'm not really keen on the idea of hairspray, as I like it to move.

Also have very thick, coarse hair. My hair usually holds any style. Maybe its the prep work that needs looking at.

I get lots of layers cut into my hair and also get my hair dresser to thin it out a bit.

I use john freda serum [the purple one] on my hair when its really wet, then a dot of morrocan oil when its just damp. then blowdry into style.

GHD's are my best friend ever, they leave my hair so soft and smooth. if i want loose waves in it I would GHD them in now. For some reason I cant get waves in once i have GHDed it stright.

I find i never need to but anything on my hair post styling as it keeps its shape. I might run GHDs through it quickly if I am going somwhere nice.

I would use ellnet for upstyles as my hair still moves and i can brush it out.

I have never used BBH even though everyone raves about it here. I always though it would make my hair look thicker. Would you recommend it?

I just straighten mine with a bit of frizz-ease first but have been meaning to try Moroccan oil.

Thanks, both of you.

Yes, I have it massively thinned out at the ends in order to avoid tee-pee a-frame hair. Whereas on normal haired people, this might end up looking wispy and straggly, on my hair it makes it hang just right. It is all the same length (face-framing) but seriously thinned out at the ends.

This cut does really help with styling, but I still find that the coarse/frizziness is still ready to break through at a moment's notice.

At the moment, I'm just using Moroccan oil before and after - a tiny amount.

chocolate - I ended up binning my GHDs once I got the BBH, but then I never found GHDs to work with my hair at all so wasn't sorry to see the back of them. I was also worried about the BBH making my hair even bigger since that's the last thing it needs, but it's been a revelation.

Have you tried the avon shampoo and conditioner avonshop.co.uk/product/haircare/shampoo/advance-techniques-damage-repair-shampoo.html

I think its great, and as cheap as chips. I use two bottles of the conditioner to every one of shampoo. For some weird reason the repair works better than the frizz control.

Also after washing my hair i would sometimes smooth a tiny amount of conditioner through my hair and style as normal. I never tried this with moroccan oil though.

I have a bristle brush which I spray with hairspray and then brush over my hair - holds it a bit, but stops it getting too "coated" (although I do find that a light mist of Elnett is fab on its own normally).

I use Bumble and Bumble Brilliantine to get slightly messy, tousled hair that stays tousled (rather than dropping flat). They do other ones for other things which might be worth trying?

I also found that Paul Mitchell "super strong treatment" is great as an intensive conditioner - it seems to "seal" the hair. The first time I used it my friend asked if I had been for a haircut because my ends looked so much healthier than normal. I use it fairly regularly and it has a fairly calming effect.

I have similar hair to how you describe yours and love L'oreal Mythic Oil, just a little smoothed over after styling and my hair looks shiny and smooth.
