I mean I really am CLUELESS when it comes to clothes, no confidence whatsoever so please help! I am going to a wedding this year, of a very good friend. Have the dress already, it's black (don't worry! It's a second wedding, not in a church!!) and sort of gypsy style, very flattering cut that sort of flares out at the bottom. It's long, but not ankle length. The bodice is sort of ruched and the sleeves sit just on the shoulder. Hope that describes it and doesn't just confuse people! I ought to say I have brown hair and am 5'2 and erm, curvy (ie still haven't got rid of baby weight and he's three now....................)

My problem is - what jewellery would I wear? What shoes? What sort of bag? Do I wear a jacket or scarf or something?

Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp! I'm so fed up with attending weddings and occasions feeling unsure whether I look a dogs dinner or alrightish. I'd love a bit of confidence about this outfit!

Depends - what time of year will it be? What time of day?

told you I'm clueless!

It's in April, and it's late afternoon through to an evening do at a pretty posh venue. am agog for your opinions................

Your dress sounds lovely!
For bags, maybe something like this Engraved Brooch & Tassle Tissue Bag , you have to go to 'Accessorize', 'bags & purses', 'evening bags'
Although there are other pretty ones on the site
will have a look at shoes

FrenchGirl · 18/01/2006 10:31

For shoes, I'd go for sandals, with pretty varnished toe nails (either a natural colour or a dark red if you have pretty toes)
Have a look here I particularly like the following ones: Valda silver, Whittle Champagne, and Wistful

frenchgirl thanks for your help! However and though I hate to admit it I HATE MY FEET! I think I have hobbit feet.....so I guess I'm looking at a court shoe style? or maybe a mule style? sorry to be thinking aloud but it's helping me firm up my ideas already!

x

How about the Annie Ruffle Shrug (go to Knitwear, Boleros and Shrugs) here ?

FrenchGirl · 18/01/2006 10:38

court shoes would be nice too, or slingbacks?
if you don't like your feet then don't wear sandals, I think that's sensible!

FrenchGirl · 18/01/2006 10:40

the Arizon Black is nice

FrenchGirl · 18/01/2006 10:50

gorgeous shoes here!

beasmum · 18/01/2006 11:09

ooh frenchgirl you are my personal stylist! I LOVE the ruffle shrug and I think will definitely go for that, it's like it was made for my dress! and I love the arizona black shoes too but was a bit worried about looking like morticia adams, shall I go for metallic shoes do you think? or would that be naff? how about flesh colour?

OP posts:
FrenchGirl · 18/01/2006 11:18

Glad you like the shrug!!!
I think you should go for subtly metallic shoes with a bag in the same style (but not necessarily coordinated, I find that naff), definitely not all in black
If uou have long how about wearing it up?
also nail varnish (natural) and a necklace or long earings

FrenchGirl · 18/01/2006 11:19

'If you have long hair how about wearing it up?'

sorry about that...

beasmum · 18/01/2006 11:27

ohmigod I had forgotten to think about my hair!!!! how do I manage to get out of the house dressed each day, you must be wondering!

My hair is in a long bob so might not go up up if you know what I mean. Do you think a low bun at the back would look ok with a few tendrils so it doesn't look too 'done'? or is that just dowdy?

Definitely like the idea of long earrings. Feel MUCH more sorted, thank you SOO much, you're a gem. I'd like to buy you a coffee to say thanks but am sending good wishes over the airwaves instead x

beasmum you're welcome, I like fantasy shopping! With a long bob I wouldn't go for a bun, just make sure if it's coloured your colour is good, and have it styled really well on the day.
Have fun shopping and let me know what you buy!
